"Placeholder" tubes for rarely used phono stage PV10

Post by benjackson »

I have been enjoying my CJ PV10 with phono, but I rarely use the phono stage, and I want to preserve the life of the very nice telefunken 12ax7 pair in that stage. I'd like to put some placeholders in there. Can I just remove those tubes? Can I put "bad"/exhausted tubes in or would that cause issues (heat buildup or messed up electronics etc)? Should I just put something very cheap from eBay in those two slots as a placeholder?

Thanks!

Try to find a compatible solid state tube replacement. Should last "about forever". I wouldn't use bad tubes as they can cause voltage overloads and blow fuses.

Like this for example: https://amt-sales.com/other/tubes/12ax7ws-le/
