Guys,
Recently came to live here a Russian who used to work in the Genalex factory. He assured me that the tubes are NOS. The tubes are built not long ago.

If the factories are still making them, who do they sell them to as I was under the impression that the sanctions limited the selling of Russian tubes to the West (which I just figured was buying the majority of them)?

The Russian tube industry exists to serve their legacy weapons system electronics.
It’s just stuff. I like mine. I hope you like yours. I probably like yours too.

I'm sure the Russian government is a customer of New Sensor (Electro-Harmonix, Genalex, etc.). The company was founded in 1968 by Mike Matthews in New York City. The Russian tube industry exists to serve their legacy weapons system electronics.
According to their website https://shop.ehx.com/about/ Electro-Harmonix "EHX owns 100% of the world's largest vacuum tube factory and has a long tradition of producing the highest quality tubes renowned for their high fidelity and reliability in any application."

I know that some legacy military equipment use vacuum tubes but I was under the impression that the vast majority of sales was for consumer use. Obviously I don't know exactly what percentage but I just don't see the Russian military using vast quantities of tubes. I'm sure they have stockpiles for reserves but figured they would only buy at the rate that their equipment is using up their supply. It would definitely be interesting to get some "inside numbers."

Earilier in this thread there was some question about possibly getting a PV10 but at $1300 we all unanimously advised against. I noticed that at my local hifi shop they have one listed for $995.00. Although perhaps still on the higher side, this comes from a reputable shop. I've bought multiple items from them in the past and customer services has been A+ every time. Perhaps still on the high side, but I'm willing to pay a little extra if I know the seller can be trusted.

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?
I just setup my recently acquired 2275SE a few days ago. Had acquired that from a local enthusiast 3 months ago. Also acquired the CJ budget PF-R preamp and am enjoying that combo so far. I am sure there are better CJ pre-amps than the PF-R but this fits the bill. I am working on setting up an SME10 TT with an AT33sa cartridge paired with a Vincent PHO 500 phono preamp that will be eventually connected to an AUX port on the PF-R. Till then I am enjoying some CDs and BT streaming

Looks amazing,... except for one thing... can we get all the units center aligned?
In all seriousness, a very nice setup. Enjoy.

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?
@admin - Yes I know ... Have a very limited space to work with and with the help of my son last weekend, back-breakingly got this installed (cabling and wiring) -- at least the power and volume buttons align ... but will have another go at it to realign once he comes back for winter break from college.
Interestingly the power amp was connected via a GothamLabs power cable to the Belkin unit below. Got what I think was EMI that actually reduced (but not entirely) when the pre-amp volume was increased. Disconnected that expensive cable and used a cheap one that I had but connected to another power strip a few feet away....and voila! that fixed it!

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?
All good!
As for the EMI. I would recommend making sure that the power cables are not too close to the RCA cables. Or using shielded RCA cables as those can cut down on interference as well. My power conditioner is a few feet away from the stereo rack for this very reason. I try to keep some distance between power cables and signal cables. You can utilize some cheap plastic zip ties to hold them apart in the back of the units.

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?
Nice one matey, good to see another great pre-power match up.
The PFR is a nice preamp, SS in nature but with a warm sound, not harsh at all. Don't forget, must be left on standby to reach optimal performance. It doesn't have any power switch as such, so when plugged into AC mains, it's ready to go. After it warms up, you'll notice the LEDs blinking and whatever setting the volume level was at, will automatically initialise to zero (the volume level control turns anticlockwise all the way down). Then by pressing Mute, which acts as its power switch, is the way the PFR is ready to operate. After tunes are done playing, press Mute again and it goes to standby mode.
Only when main power is unplugged from the AC mains and restored, the pre-warm up circuit engages with the volume control going all the way down. So leave it on.
Cheers, RJ
