Re: RCA Interconnects

Highest current CJ muckity muck told me in conversation once that the CJ gear is not that sensitive compared to many others.

When I was running gear from that era (in that era), I used Straitwire and Van den Hul. At the end of my “love affair” with CJ, I was using AudioQuest Mckenzies.

Re: Conrad pv9 vs pv9a

Yeah, in all honesty as great a unit that the PV9 is, I don't think I would spend that much money on two caps for it. That's just me.

I am in 100% agreement with admin. I would not spend serious money on any of the PV preamps, although 20 years ago it did make sense.

These old PV units are ...

Re: Conrad pv9 vs pv9a

FWIW, the V caps are thought to be superior by some listeners. Chris V is a good guy, and very focused on being the best. We love his caps in the guitar business.

Great that you love his caps. They are very expensive though, well the CuTF series is and CJ does not sell their Teflon caps to ...

Re: Pv 5 heat

Admin is right about 100F being a non issue for the PV5.

Nevertheless, it can be useful to establish your baseline steady state temperature on both tube and solid state gear.

That gives you something to compare to when things don’t sound right.

Re: TT Grounding Question.

Even my CJ TEA2SE-Max has a separate ground point / screw type connector that's located on the back plate. They added this ground point just in case but it's never required. I do believe your TT rig is good enough and sounding tops as it is. The only unwanted thing being your static discharge ...

Re: Which used CJ amp to buy?

Unless your Parasound gear is presenting an issue, you might be better off keeping it. Buying used CJ in the price range you seek can be a crap shoot. If you decide to pursue it, you would be well advised to get a “home trial” with a return option on the used gear.

Re: TT Grounding Question.

The ET3 has no internal phono preamp so I bought a Lehrman Black Cube II. This unit has a ground connection that I've attached the ground of my TT to. I have no hum or ground loops that I've noticed.

I'm wondering if this is the best way to ground the table or if there's a better option. Further ...

Hola Chicos,

I’m just coming from my house construction and now I do have the real dimensions of my music room. Its 21.162 ft x 16.601 ft x 8.10.

I am wishing to enjoy my music at least three more Stories above of what I have now.

Happy listening!

Re: Wonky Static Charge Issue.

FWIW, the ClearAudio Dual Matrix Pro Sonic has an antistatic part of its cycle. I’ve not had any static discharge issues since I started using it.

Consider this an edit …

I have not had static discharge issues for years. What the Clearaudio anti-static end of cleaning cycle does is eliminate ...

DeOxit really is a worthwhile troubleshooting path. I’ve not used the F5, but I’m sure it’s a good choice.

Re: CJ Solid State Amp Recommendations

PS. For what it's worth, being 5 years late on this thread topic - My Prem 350 needs the correct voltage to run at the reasonable design temperature. Mine is rated at 220V and the wall voltage is around the 244V range (+/- at different times, being a bit over 10% difference). 244V is too much ...

Re: do you all pay retail for these new CJ pieces?

Hi. That's a dream scenario really maybe more applicable to collector watches or cars. Just want to make sure Im not the only one paying full retail and everyone else is getting heavy discounts. I think I read with some top tier brands maybe 20% was reasonable not including trade in, but I could ...

Re: do you all pay retail for these new CJ pieces?

The only brand that holds more than 50% of its original value after a few years is McIntosh.

If you don’t want to eat the depreciation, buy used.

Here’s a link to the used inventory at the music room.

Some of these prices are way high compared to what they will eventually sell for.

Re: do you all pay retail for these new CJ pieces?

FWIW, the depreciation on nearly all high end brands is rapid and large. If you buy a $40k amp, you will be lucky to get $15k out of it two years later. And depreciation continues, albeit at a slower rate.

If you’re worried about taking a hit, buy used at the time the model is being discontinued ...

Re: do you all pay retail for these new CJ pieces?

There is no rule of thumb. You need to talk to one or more dealers.

If you have an older CJ piece to trade, often the trades are generous, especially on recent models.

The CJ dealers generally have low overhead, and inventory is often drop shipped, reducing overhead further.

If you bundle a ...

Re: Conrad-Johnson Premier 16LS mkII

On “What’s Best Forum” there are posters who say that there are “influencers” who actually have a financial incentive to shill for a brand. I can’t confirm this myself, but some insist they know of cases first hand.

Caveat Emptor is always in play, especially with things that are as subjective and ...

And last, try hard to not be influenced by articulate, but highly biased, dealers or former dealers with continuing ties to a marque. They’ve got skin in the game. If the guy’s posts look and smell like advertising, it’s because they are.

Don’t listen to me either … except that my advice to ...
