Re: Hello from Germany

Hi and thanks for the advice. You'r right. Only one change at one time otherwise there is not much sense in comparisons. As far as I can say by now the amp sounds splendid with the passive Kohzmo pre although there seems one 5751 to be worn. The effect is that the imaging is shifted slightly to one ...

Re: Hello from Germany

Thanks, Peter. I will follow your advice and will first listen to the tubes supplied with the amp. The 6550s ar Svetlanas as far as I can see. Then I will also try finding the perfect match with the preamps I have. Let's see. First of all the voltage has to be adjusted on the power transformer. You ...

Re: hello from Italy

Hello to all, I live in Italy and I love the music (sorry for my english) I hope to find here many tips to increase my passion for cj Well the passion for cj comes with experience(training your ears). I firmly believe that after enough time, your hearing will come to "recogonize" your own system. I ...

Well seems like the two of you covered just about everything in my collection....just about. Didnt read through them all that was listed(I will) but have a few that I found to either be great stories, great A/V or both.... First, gotta admit I just got off a Farscape marathon...lol. Re: Help. Looking for a Tube amp

I have always been a fan of bi-amping or tri-amping speakers, and with a a $2500 budget there are several possibilities if your a patient for good deals. Marchand(I think I spelled it right), used to and probably still does make good tube crossovers. You can get that mv-55 for the highs and still ...

Re: What do you play to demo your system?

Well it really depends on what the system is trying to achieve. For home audio first grab is the opening to "Money" by Pink Floyd(gotta hear exactly where those coins touch and drop, as well as the cashier machine. Vinyl... "Jazz at the Pawnshop"(JATPS) specifically for the background noise ...

Re: Atlanta -Georgia - USA ... Older Music & CJ Lover

Welcome! Regardless of your age, I KNOW those Klipschorns can get through to you with ample volume. If your hearing loss is like most, you will have a "squeezing" of the bandwidth you can hear(losing of the lower and upper frequencies). I know to many it is "unthinkable"(even unbearable...lol), but ...

Re: S.E.T. Vs CJ Amp

Can't say for sure. People do swear by them though they also have a reputation for being more particular about system setup. Need for higher efficiency speakers the biggest requirement. I have on order a Single Ended amp designed by Dennis Had of Cary fame. He is using a pair of KT150's power tubes ...

Re: Anyone running CJ pre with non-CJ SS amp?

Just curious how people are using their CJ pres. i used to have CJ pre with CJ tube amp...but have since moved to SS Class A which i prefer. Always good to hear other people's experiences about what works! I have used just about everything from Audio Research to Crown with my pv-1. I run mostly ...

Re: CJ ART sa / 8 or 4 ohm

Hi Camusmuse Thanks for advice. Where can I find ZED? Are they in South Africa? The dealer that sells Audio Research has a guy they use in Cape Town. I will probably use him when CJ have finally responded with some diagnostic advice and then sent parts! No doubt, this will take months. No they are ...

Re: CJ ART sa / 8 or 4 ohm

Might wanna see if you can pickup a tube tester. With the amount spent on the gear, a tester is relatively inexpensive and will generally let you know exactly what condition your tubes are in...including remaining life span. Not to mention it can let you "match" your own sets if need be.

Re: CJ ART sa / 8 or 4 ohm

I wont edit the last, but it may be worth contacting Zed Audio. He is originally from S. Africa, and is the KING of high end CAR audio, but he knows more than most, and can repair anything. He made the OEM amps for SEVERAL US companies before they all went to the far east for "disposable" gear. Mr ...

HI Ray Yes, a stiff drink could help! I hope this is not an indication of things (smelly and burning) to come. Only trouble is I am in South Africa. No agent here, so I am liable for shipping back to US if CJ and a local tech cannot diagnose the problem, To courier to US from here about $2000 with ...

Re: KT-150 a drop in replacement for KT-120's?

Here are some spec sheets on the KT120 and KT150. Heater current is marginally higher for the KT150 but I wont pretend that I understand much of what any differences mean in a practical sense. Although I'm sure some of you do, so here they are: http://www.hebertech.com/datasheet/tung-sol/kt120.html ...

Is it sad I want to use these tubes just cause they look so darn cool??? I have always loved the 300B, but price and lack of wattage, have always kept me away. May have to look for a diy for those purdy looking things. I have a few old tube power trans and OT from past fleabay impulse buys....time ...

This is karma at it's finest, I make a comment about Murphy's law yesterday...and today, while listening in "Stereo" the system went to Mono. Glancing down at the left channel ART..one of the output tubes was glowing nearly cherry red. Replaced with spare, checked fuse, same issue. Replaced with ...

Re: Spin Clean Record Washer

When I first read about the Spin Clean I was also a little hesitant as the gold standard is the vacuum units. I had fears that the towel drying would leave a bunch of lint in the grooves which would cause it's own problems. However, I have not found that to be the case. I hand wash the towels every ...
