Re: MV55 Tube sockets issues.

There certainly may be more problems. But if the tubes are not seated well due to the socket not holding the tube pins appropriately, then that is step 1. Fix the obvious problems first, and then re-evaluate.

Re: Audio Research

Can't speak to their sound as I've never had the pleasure of auditioning them, but they do look amazing. 330 watts per channel, now that's a powerhouse!

Re: MV55 Tube sockets issues.

It should be pretty easy. It's basically nothing more than a swap. Make sure the unit is unplugged when working on it. I would manually discharge any of the larger capacitors for safety. After that, it's just desoldering the current socket and resoldering in the new ones.

Re: MV55 Tube sockets issues.

I myself am a MV-55 owner. The things you describe are obviously not normal or how this unit should operate. First and foremost I think you have already identified a faulty component(s), the tube socket. There should never be any need for "wiggling" to get a good connection to the tubes. I would ...

Re: Sydney Hifi Show April 2025

Not sure why somebody would want to pair 6 Rel subs (or any subs for that matter) with those Sonus Faber speakers? They should already be full range. Why muddy the soundstage with so much artificial low end?

The Marantz is a conversation piece for sure. Obviously not geared to a true audiophile but ...

Re: PV10 hiss - tracking down issue vs normal

Glad you soled the problem. I've owned Schiit gear before and they do offer a lot of bang for your buck. Especially considering they are made in the US.

The tubes were not a waste. Always good to have a 2nd set on hand in case a tube in the unit blows. You can also tube roll and see if the new ones ...

Re: PV10 hiss - tracking down issue vs normal

First, welcome to CJO. Great to have you with us.

Here is what I would do as ruling out the low hanging fruit is the easiest:

1) Make sure it's not a ground loop. This would specifically be a sound at exactly 60 hz. It's important to rule out ground loops as they are very common and their solution ...

Re: PV5 Electrolytic Replacements

First, welcome to CJO.

I can't make any specific recommendations for the PV5 as that is not a unit I have ever owned, but I can vouch for the quality of Solen as I have used them in other cap replacements in my equipment.

Re: Why don’t I quit being negative?

I can't tell if it's desk, which would mean I keep hitting my shins on those sharp lower shelf corners, or a book shelf, but then the top seems too large. It's like the worst of both designs! :)
