Just realized that I posted this to the wrong thread. Sorry about that.

Re: PV7 - MM or MC phono cartridge compatbility

It just occurred to me that Bill Thalmann modified my PV-10AL by (among other things) adding a phonostage. It wasn't a stock PV-10A. Perhaps he "tamed" the phonostage output so it wasn't 48dB. It was so long ago I no longer remember the particulars and that might explain why I didn't have any ...

Re: PV7 - MM or MC phono cartridge compatbility

That's strange. I used an Ortofon 2M Black MM cartridge 5.0 mV output with my PV10A and had absolutely no volume issues. None.

Re: Audio Research

I know what you mean about it all comes down to a matter of preference. Over the years I've owned a 5881/6L6 amp, an EL-34 amp and two that were designed around the 6550 but could use other types such as KT-88, et al. One of the variants I tried was the KT-90 which I think was originally ...

Re: New CAV-60

He does write quite positive reviews, you're right. I must say that his review of the CA200 in 2006 was a contributing factor in my purchasing one years later.

Re: New CAV-60

For those with an interest and the access, the April 2025 issue of Hi-Fi+ (#242) has a review of the CAV-60 by Alan Sircom. As a subscriber to The Absolute Sound I happened to receive an online complimentary issue. TAS and Hi-Fi+ the latter being a UK magazine are sister publications.

The review is ...

Wow! Very impressive and the people in the photos helped me realize the scale of the construction. Continued buena suerte/buona fortuna in its construction!

Re: Noob to CJO

The CA200 which I've had for the last dozen years or so is kind of the kid brother to the Premier 350. It's about half the power rating of the 350 shoe-horned into the Premier 18 preamp casework. The CA200 also uses a bipolar output stage (as does the later CA150). Like RJ reports of their other ss ...

Re: New CAV-60

Thanks AJ & RJ for responding. The momentary peak ratings make sense while the steady state is going to be lower in normal sustained operation. As long as the user doesn't overdrive the amp for more than a short burst things should be fine.

Re: New CAV-60

There's a question I've been meaning to ask.

When reading the specs for the CAV60 it lists the max power output as 60wpc. I was under the impression that the max plate dissipation for an EL-34 is 25w. Even running a pair in UL isn't 60 watts pushing the tubes really hard? I noticed the CJ Classic ...

Re: CJ ART Preamp - new price back in 1998

According to the Stereophile review back in 1998 by Wes Phillips it was USD$14,995. Not sure where you live but the electrical service in India is 220V so if the unit has been converted that may be a factor. Not to mention the price the dealer is asking.

Re: Bose Corp in full glory

What AJ reports is pretty much on target although "leaving NYC in droves" might be a little over the top. It's true that the population decreased 6% between 2020 and 2023 and that is definitely significant. How much of that was due to COVID-19 is something I don't know. During the final year of that ...

Re: RCA Interconnects

I've owned three different CJ preamps, two amps and one control amp. None were the ones you mention. Always found XLO to be an excellent match because they simply get out of the way and allow you to hear the sources. One thing to be careful of is to get them from either someone you trust or from an ...

Re: RCA Interconnects

I think the Premier 11 as a pre is a typo by the OP. I believe he has a Premier 14 pre, or at least he did, according to his profile.

Carry on. :)

Re: Premier 17LS: Now In House

Even better, the CJD Teflon caps on the 17LS2 would improve upon clarity and frequency response top and bottom compared to the plain vanilla 17LS that I had. When I had a Premier 140 modified by CJ with the C1 upgrade that's what I experienced with the amp so I'm guessing similar gains in ...
