Re: Authentic Winged C 6550 vs New Production Tung Sol 6550
My opinion was formed using the Reissue 6550 and the SED 6550C in an 11a, a stock Premier 140 and the same amp with the C1 Teflon upgrade.
I thought New Sensor did a very good job copying the original Tung-Sol three hole 6550. The bass was tight and punchy, the mids clear and gave a realism to the ...

Re: 7dj8 in ET5 not working
Just out of curiosity is the Mullard 6922 that you're using from original production or the New Sensor reissue?
I never did get around to trying the New Sensor reissue but did try the Mullard CV2493 which I used as the input tube on a Premier 140 and the Mullard PCC88/7DJ8 in a Premier 16LS2. I ...

Re: 7dj8 in ET5 not working
Should you decide to revisit 7DJ8 tubes, I found these to be quite good when I used them in a Premier 16LS2. It's been many years since I patronized the vendor but they never disappointed and especially given prices nowadays, worth it.

Re: LP12 and Clearaudio Master Reference
On the cost of vinyl, I think if you think about the cost of records, phono preamp, TT, cartridge, RCM, etc, you will run screaming to streaming.
If you follow some of the threads on the PS Audio forum some members there spend quite a bit on cables, filters and switches as well for streaming ...

Re: Tube rolling for Art 27a
RJ's recommendation to contact Jeff is spot-on as RJ stated, he's the designer.
From a sheerly point-of-information perspective, this is an AI generated response I received online:
"Yes, 6550 tubes can be used in triode amplifiers. The 6550 is a beam tetrode tube that's often used in audio service ...

Re: LP-140M
A nice collection of Quads and the Apogee Diva is none-too shabby either.
I'm not sure but you may be the person I remember concerning the preference for TS 6550 + Quads. The Reissue TS 6550 didn't in my opinion equal the originals but were a darn good copy I thought.

Re: LP-140M
When I owned the Premier 140 my preference was for the reissue Tung-Sol 6550 over the KT-120 but I was decidedly in the minority with that point of view. I had Quad 989 speakers at the time and I seem to remember someone who also owned them being of like mind. Preferences in these cases are by ...

No. Since both are phase inverting then the speakers should be wired "normally -- positive/red to positive/red and negative/black to negative/black.

Re: New Member in Charleston, SC
RJ's comments on the KT90 tube type are similar to my own experiences especially with those made by Electro-Harmonix. I thought they may have been "accurate" sounding but for want of a better way for me to describe them I thought they were uninvolving -- they left me cold. I also had a number of ...

Re: System update and a question
I have limited experience with CJ's preamps other than having owned first their 17LS and then the 16LS2. And the PV10A before that but the 10A used tubes in the 12Ax family so that doesn't count. There has been some anecdotal evidence I've read that CJ's post Premier preamps may push their tubes ...

I use Microsoft Edge as my browser and while I use the Dark overall appearance setting and the default theme it will present black tab backgrounds, it won't override individual website settings.
