33 1/3 Book Series

Post by AnotherJohnson »

I don’t know how many are aware of the 33 1/3 book series.

Currently there are 161 titles, each focused on a 12” vinyl LP. There are a large number of authors. Each book represents an in depth look at an album of great interest to the particular author.

If you google 33 1/3 Books, you’ll find many of them available for purchase.

If you’re interested in band and album back stories, take a look. I expect you’ll find a title that you’d like to read. There’s a strong used market. The books are paper bound and can generally be read in one sitting (if you are a regular reader).

I’ve just finished Aja. As a Steely Dan fan from the beginning, I found it fascinatingly insightful. One of my sons collects them. Aja includes more music theory than most, and it spends more time placing that album in the context of Fagen’s and Becker’s body of work than is typical of other titles, so it could be viewed as tedious by many … but I enjoyed it.
