Christmas is coming… anyone else getting out the train sets?

Post by AnotherJohnson »

I brought a Lionel G Scale train to set up for the 2 year old this week.

I configured a 52” loop, cleaned the tracks, replaced the remote control battery, plugged in the power supply and got out the video.

He loved it. He ran to get his animal menagerie to decorate the infield.

Anyone else enjoy toy trains?

We’ve had huge layouts in G, O, and HO, and small layouts in N and Z.

I’ve sold off most sets and scenery in recent years, but still have my father’s Lionel G Scale Pennsy passenger train, a Norwegian replica in HO scale of the NSB EL16 powered passenger train that pulled my grandfather and me from Bergen to Oslo in 1989, the G scale Christmas train, and HO sets replicating the Tennessee Central, and the sets the kids had 30+ years ago.

The grandson was drawn in like a moth to a flame.
It’s just stuff. I like mine. I hope you like yours. I probably like yours too.

I remember having some sets when I was a kid. Great fun,... although due to high cost mostly an "adult child" hobby if you want to get serious about it. I remember reading an article about Rod Stewart and apparently he spent 25 years building a large train set at his LA home which he is very proud of.

Neil Young is also a huge model train enthusiast.
