Re: Conrad Johnson premier 1b
Hola Economistdb,
There are four screws that are securing the transformer's housing. Just retighten them very hard, strong, tight... Use a nut driver to hold the nut. Once they are well tighten again, the hum is almost non existent. Most transformers hum. The 60Hz frequency of the line mains AC makes them to resonate.
If you still have the hum after retighten all screws, you need service the transformer. There are a lot of metal sheets into the transformer. These sheets are secured by a special lacquer. When the lacker lose its ability to secure these metal sheets, the transformer starts to hum.
Happy listening.

First, welcome to CJO.
Agree with Roberto. The transformer is physically vibrating and needs to be tightened down to dampen this vibration. If that doesn't work, it needs to be replaced.

Re: Conrad Johnson premier 1b
I forgot to mention that the vibration is due to the 60Hz of the power line AC Mains. It is normal to listen the hum being close to it...you can hear the hum in a distance of 12 inches...but with the cover on will tame this hum. 3 feet away, should not be hear the it.
Happy listening!
