I have a GAT2, running stock CJ till I get more time in the burn. Some of my older friends say the tube that makes them happiest with sound is Telefunken CCa - Made in Germany; a high price for sound. Send an email to Jeff Fishel at CJ; ask him what he would recommend. I have some Gold Lion's I'm going to swap out of my Premier 17LS2 and try them here. I also hear Bugle boy has a special place as well in the ears of some.

I am trying the 6h23p reflectors in the Gat and it made a difference from the the stock tubes.

I thought the GAT Series 2 only used PCC88 / 7DJ8 tubes, NOT the 6922 from the original GAT.

I was under the same impression as you, Joe. I remember some earlier discussions that the original GAT had a tendency to "eat" tubes at a pretty rapid rate pushing the 6922 tube complement to its limit (and a little beyond). As a result c-j switched to the more robust PCC88/7DJ8. Their web site still states that they use the 6922. That having been said, Jeff Dorgay's review of the GAT 2 in Tone Magazine states that his came equipped with vintage Philips PCC88/7DJ8.

So, I'm not really sure what's going on.

Thank you Joe. I believe the Conrad-Johnson website is not fully updated because they don’t specifically mention the GAT Series 2. All references mention the GAT not the series 2.

More food for thought. We need to follow up with Conrad Johnson.

Last night a 6922 went out in my ART 150. It was the Philips Holland E88c's sent with the amp from CJ a month back. I went upstairs and got a Quad of Genalex Gold Lion 6922's (platinum rated by Upscale) I had bought for use in my Prem17LS. I turned 3 of them loose in the ART; problem solved.
The Gold Lion's sell for $39+. I lost some definition but it gained in some other things that sound great, 3d/holographic. I have maybe 30 hours on my ART 150... Now in the GAT2 I took out what came with it, put in the Telefunken E88c/6922's I got in trade for other CJ stuff; they sell for $224 each. I highly recommend them for your GAT2 as well if you have the cash. The Gold Lion's... at that price may be worth a try in the GAT2 as well. I can say in the ART, last night it made me have a "wait a minute" moment due to the 3d nature, and maybe they play well with the Telefunken E88's which have a rich bright high.
