PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
Currently PV10A with Phono section. Sold my EAR 834P as sounded very similar, and that is very good
But I couldn't resist a CJ EV1 at a good price, due next week.
Opinions on whether it will be a lot better than the PV10A Phono section (using ART9XA with EAR MC3 SUT)

Re: PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
I think the EV1 should be better, all things being equal. Also, you should expect extra longevity out of the EV1 as the unit is a decade younger than than the PV10. If I had the choice of the PV10 phono or a dedicated EV1, I would definitely go with the EV1.

Re: PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
Arrived today.
CJ stuff continues to amaze me.
Only had chance with 'phones tonight EVI into line PV10A input
Similar sound to my PV10A phono, but just way better.
Big problem is rack space as it's 19" wide.
I will scan and upload manual as I don't think its on here?

Congrats! 19" is what the unit is listed as so that is going to be one tight fit. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation with tube gear.
It looks like even the official CJ site doesn't have the manual available for download.

Re: PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
This issue of rack space is real for several manufacturers.
I ran into this same problem when I tried to stuff the TEA2MAX into one of my cabinets. I ended up mounting it on top with the preamp and CD player.
I’ve been using a nonaudio rack with far more room in my main system. It’s not pretty, but it’s very functional.

I've had good luck with Sylvania tubes in that unit.
There was a fellow on AudioKarma who had 1000 Sylvania JAN-12AX7s but looks like he sold out as the ad is gone.
If you see boxes pop up on eBay that say 5960-827-8782 and CONT. NO. DSA900-71-C-5043 on them you want to jump, they're brand new.

Re: PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
If the unit must go into a cabinet or very tight space, they do sell fans that can help with cooling.
Something like this for example: https://www.amazon.com/AC-Infinity-Top- ... 61&sr=8-13
I actually use a fan system for my home theater receiver which is on the bottom shelf of my rack which only has about 1.5 inch of clearance from the next shelf. It gets so hot without extra ventilation that I can't put my hand on the top of the unit. With the fan it's completely cool. The fans do really work well.

Re: PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
FWIW, the standard pro rack is 19” wide. The height is 1.75”.
Multiples of the height are possible by using more than one bay. But the width is the width.
I’ve owned several pieces of CJ gear that came with rack handles on the front. At one time, on some units, it was an option to have them.
Several of the ARC and Krell components I’ve owned have also had handles.
The Levinson 5805 is 17.25” wide, but it is 20” deep, deeper than most standard gear. I think it was designed with the idea that a measly $9350 integrated would probably not be going into a pro rack.
19” is pretty common for traditional gear, but there’s enough stuff out there that’s less wide, that some “racks” and cabinets are more narrow.
In my Nichols & Stone cabinets, the door on the right side makes it impossible to stuff a CJ TEA or ET preamp sized box onto a shelf. The double door double width left side will take such pieces easily.
Regarding the fans, certainly it is important to keep components cool. Any piece of gear that becomes too hot to touch needs more cooling.

Re: PV10 Phono vs EV1 Phono
Looks like it fits as the PV10A is only 16" wide so the two together are the same as two regular sized 17 1/2" units
Just need to sort the leads out an redo the "Rats Nest"
