Should I set my CJ Premier 11 to 220v instead of 240v ?

Post by Toberius »

Hi,
the question is that in Argentina, for those of us who have single-phase, the voltage is 220v during the day, however the supplied voltages vary and are lower at night, so the voltage drops from 220v to 200v/195v. I think my CJ Pr11 is set to work at 240v.

Should I set my CJ Pr11 to 220v instead of 240v ?

Is it a good idea to know the voltages I have at home?

Regards.

If your power is so inconsistent, I would strongly recommend a voltage regulator. I don't think a 10% variation would damage anything but I wouldn't run my equipment on something that far off.

I was thinking about a voltage regulator. It turns out that reaching the 195/202 v voltage, the equipment tends to turn off and the bias led begin to blink tirelessly.

Wow, that is pretty extreme. I probably wouldn't run anything that is potentially 10-20% off spec. I use a voltage regulator in my system as I've found fluctuations of 3-4 volts from standard 120v. For me I consider that huge!

hola Toberius,

Definitivamente debes usar el voltaje ajustado a 220V. No sabía que Conrad Johnson permite eso.

As I remember, the power transformer comes with two primary wounds. These wounds are 120 V. In series, the offer 240V and connected in parallel, they are 120V. Usually the voltage drops during the day, and at night, because are less users, the voltage goes up. Can you send a pic of the back where the model is, and there is the working voltage stated.

Happy listening!

Thanks for response Roberto and I agree, also I noticed the label 220v.

The connection should be as shown in figure 220v
But for that I would have to look at the PCB. That is, let me doubt the label.

Believe at the label. Two primaries are connected in series to obtain the 220V. All Conrad Johnson power transformers are built for 110V or 220V.

Having less voltage to the primaries of the transformer will not harm. Having more, that is not safe. The voltage regulators, the good ones, cost a lot of money. The ones that you find usually, are not a good quality and really mess the quality sound. It is much better to keep using the transformer.

Happy new year for you too!
