Correct Phase

Post by redlion2017 »

Hello and Happy Thanksgiving...

New to this forum. Would appreciate some direction. I have recently acquired a subwoofer, and am wondering, as it connects between the Amp & Preamp, how should I start with the (thankfully supplied) phase control on the sub? Am I correct in thinking as the signal is inverted from pre to sub, does the phase control affect only the sub?, or does it act to change phase in output to the amp?, being CJ as well, inverts phase to the main speakers?
The sub phase settings : 0, 90, 180, 270 (having only seen 0 / 180 before..perplexed)

Thanks for any guidance,
and Peace to all.

First, welcome to the site.

Which CJ preamp are you using? We should make sure that it is phase inverting. Presuming it is we need to know how the sub is connected to the system.

If it's via RCA from the preamp as a passthrough, you would need to select 180 phase on the sub (ie phase convert). You also need to look in the sub manual to see if it phase converts the signal post passthrough or not. If it doesn't, then you would need to phase convert at the amp to speaker connection.

If it's via speaker cable after the amp, then you just simply phase convert the speaker wire between the amp and the sub and set the sub phase to "0".

Hope that helps but again, if you give us a more detailed equipment connection description we can probably give you more exact answers. Take care.

Both the PV9 and Evolution 2000 are phase inverting so if the sub is after the amp, you don't have to phase invert it.
