Premier 14 service repair in Southern California?

Post by tonto »

hi. i have two premier 14 preamps....and love them both.

but now, one of them has stopped working. it powers on...the tubes light up....but i get NO sound out of it. nothing. no hiss, rumble, nuttin!

i've totally swapped out the tubes, to no avail, and had local repairman mitch singerman look at it, but he can't figure out why it's not working.

if possible, i'd rather find a local Southern California repair guy that can look at it and make the repairs, but i'm not having luck on my own looking for someone.

any suggestions MUCH appreciated.

thanks!

First, welcome to CJO. Great to have you with us!

Sorry to hear about the troubles you are having with the Premier 14. I'm afraid I can't help you with making a recommendation for a local repairman but have you (or your local repairman) tried pulling out a multimeter and doing side by side comparison readings on the two units internal components. You are in a very unique position in that you have two units so it would be very easy to take measurements side by side. When you find a discrepancy, you can then narrow down the faulty component.

I would do this unplugged. Getting readings while the unit is powered on would probably make the trouble shooting easier but you really have to know where you are sticking the probes. I would not do it while powered on unless you have a lot of experience with electronics. You don't want to damage the unit (or yourself).

BTW, we do have the premier 14 schematics in our database so that may be of use. Since you do not get any sound, the problem is most likely in one of the shared circuits.

Thanks a good idea....one that I had not thought of. I'm not particularly a 'repair' person-type myself, but I can suggest this to the person I engage, and it should pinpoint the problem. Thanks much.
