New media rack in the Home Theater

Post by admin »

I recently decided to move most of my media into the home theater room. It took awhile to find an adequate storage piece that would fit into the room. I specifically wanted to fill the space in the back of the room behind my rear speakers. I found this item and put it in place. Next thing to do,... move well over 1,000 LP's, laserdiscs, CD's, etc....

I was able to take my laserdisc collection over. Wow, they take up a lot of space. About 900 movies thus far (and always growing). Not to much room for LP's and forget about the CD's....

I have since expanded the shelves with some matching 4x4 units on the side as well. Here is the picture on the Right back of the room and I have have another 2 sets on the Left as well.

I was asked to write some articles for a new online laserdisc magazine. I wrote a nice little article about proper storage of laserdiscs but this can be expanded to vinyl as well as they share common physical attributes. Take a look if you have time:

Unfortunately, it looks like LaserReplay.com is "out of business." I will post a PDF of the review article I wrote so that if anybody is interested they can read it as it is a nice review of large media (ie laserdisc and LP) storage.

It's the Expedit shelf series from Ikea. Unfortunately, they are no longer produced (but are replaced with a similar series called Kallax, http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50301543/). I've seen a lot of people use these for records as they are very sturdy and come in different sizes. I have a large 5x5, as well as some 4x2's and 2x2's.

Here are some articles that talk about the change:
