Any Harbeth owners here ? ....

Post by joeinid »

I ordered a pair of Harbeth 40.1's and wonder if anyone is using any Harbeth speakers with their CJ gear.

I do and like it a lot :) My Super HL-5 are hooked up to a Premier 11A and working very nice. Maybe the 40.1 would need slightly more power?

Thanks Alex. I don't usually crank the music but I feel reasonably confident my amps will work.

What amps would you use with the 40.1?

I have CJ ART monos with a GAT preamp. I also have some McIntosh gear. I can't help think the CJ/Harbeth synergy will be amazing.

How did the Harbeth 40.1 end up working ? I have the SHL5+ and the 40.1 has been on my radar list. I was concerned about reports of bass control being tricky on the .1 version. I know on the 5+ the bass was tighter and did not present the bloat or overhang of the non+ version. I owned them both, so I speak from experience. My understanding is that the 40.2 got the bass change as the 5+??

That, unfortunately, was a long time ago. The 40.1 were a little overblown in my room, puffy bass, and a little uncontrolled. I had SF Strads then too and they killed my 40.1.

I am sure the 40.2 are much better but I have not heard them.
