Re: Premier 12 Cover Modification
Hola Chicos, Nice job Bill!... Regarding using the KT'150s replacing the KT'120s, Mr Jeff Fischel does not recommend it. Talking about it with him, my conclusion is that the voltage regulators for the filaments of the tubes are very specific for the current that the KT120s drain, the KT150s drain mo...

Re: Classic 60
Gee, I can't say that about the service and support. I have being receiving all the help that I needed and support from Jeff. I knew that Jeff had problems with some non customers, and specially from people that was counterfeit Conrad Johnson products. He still does not send the diagrams and when yo...

Re: Classic 60
Yes RJ, Jeff really knows his goods. He knew that once I was going to disconnect the secondary wounds of the transformer, the short will not be present. He knew that it was another problem, not the transformer. so what I did is to connect each secondary and checked the short with the aid of the vari...

Re: Classic 60
Yes, variac is a clever tool to have, specially when a short arise. Just isolate the parts of the circuit and there you go.
Happy listening to all! And as RJ says, enjoy those fine tunes.

Re: Classic 60
Here is another tip: having this variac tool with the amps meter, if the transformer is bad, then even disconnecting all the secondary wounds, the amps reading on the meter will be showing the short. When I disconnect all the secondary wounds, the short went away, telling that the power transformer ...

Re: Classic 60
Yes Admin, and the look of the transformer wires, due to the short, looked kind of a smoked color. My bad guess. It was just that. And also the great tip from Jeff. Using a variac is the way to trouble shoot vacuum tubes...or shorts of any electronic component. The amps reading meter built into the ...

Classic 60
Hola Chicos, Just got from a dear friend for repair a Classic 60 power amp. The unit did not turn on. So the first thing that I did was to check the power fuse that it is located at the IEC power cord female connector. The fuse was totally smoked. Then I opened the bottom of the unit and my bad gues...

Re: Oh! For the love of tubes!
Hola Chicos, One of my best friends and a crazy audiophile just passed. His system was more like mine, having him all kinds of electronics around too. There were Pass Labs preamp XP-12 and a XA-30.8 power amp. This is a 35 Watts power amp with a real weight of 88 pounds. More weight than my Classic ...

Re: Premier 17ls pre amp tube question
I used in my ET-7 model preamp the Holland made Philips E88CC, with a very happy sound, but I had a noisy channel, I did change for a new E88CC and got another noisy channel again. Then I tried the Genalex Gold Lion 6922 and the overall sound was not as good as the Philips, mostly regarding the harm...

Re: Channel Imbalance, CT5 easy fix
Good advice and also a very good point Admin. Cheap batteries might leak and ruin the remote control. That happened to me too. Good brand and well known brands are almost leak free. This does not means that the expensive batteries do not leak. And yes, they do. Your advice must be done every two mon...

Hola Chicos, I went back to the famous rabbit playing the drums batteries...they last longer than the Amazon batteries. This is my finding and in my system. The price on the Amazon batteries is lower than the Duracell, but I'm sticking with the Duracell. And yes, fool of me. This might be because of...

Re: Electrolytic cap on CJ preamp (PV9/PV9a)
Hola,
Judging by the drawing, and see also bride diodes, this tells me that it belongs to a part of the power supply. Do you have any hum once the unit is on? If you don't, the cap is working fine.
Happy listening!

Hola metaxa64, Welcome. Great to know that you own ML speakers. I have the CLXs model, and I love the way that my Classic One Twenty SE power amp drives them. Because of the low impedance that ML electrostatic has, I do like a lot how the CJ output transformers handles it and drives them. Oh well, t...

Re: replacement of pv7 power supply capacitor
Hola. In a power supply, it is very important to have the voltage value the same or more working voltage . The capacitance, if you use a higher value like 50uF instead 40uF, you can do this, but never lower a capacitance value.
