He had all the Spring Level 3 KTE models until I bought the Holo May KTE, and he bought it too after me and my thoughts about how really blends with Conrad Johnson. I'm going to list some of the toys that he had: 2 HSU VTF-15H MK...

Re: Audio Research CJ synergy
Hola Chicos, My dear friend Roch Guistinianni just passed, and his system was marvelous, using a ET-5 with a LP125SA power amp with the CLX Martin Logan. He was very wealthy, and I had the chance to listen serious systems and electronics with him. He brought many different kind of speakers and elect...

Re: Premier 16ls Transformer Replacement
I think you are right. It is good to be safer in about 30% more of the needs regarding Amps consumption. The voltages are OK. I how you finally can have back your preamp. If the power transformer can supply more current than the needed in the circuit, you are totally safe.

The Classic Sixty Two is also a great sounding power amp. The SE version comes with a special metal foil resistors, and Teflon Caps. Anyhow, you have wonderful sounding power amp too.

Re: Classic 62SE On The Way
So it is not SE version, the SE version employs the KT-120s, or did you order it with the 6CA7/EL34s instead the KT-120s?

Re: Classic 62SE On The Way
Glad you made the right choice. The KT120s are very good and nice to have. I did try the KT-150s in an Audio Research power amp, and...no way. I love the KT120s, even knowing that they have less power. Gee, I really love my Classic 120SE too.

Re: Classic 62SE On The Way
Hola Paolo, Congrats with your new power amp, and I am with Severegloves. It is wise to do your best and get the ET-5, it will blend beautifully with your Classic 62SE. You can't go wrong with it. The ET-5 is a very nice and good sounding preamplifier. Of course it has the Conrad Johnson signature q...

Re: MV-55 anyone with experience of this?
Admin just said it: This unit is bullet proof. Also, I don't know of any issues with this particular model. Of course, a unit with over 25 years you should have a serious listening before you get it. But usually the unit will sing beautiful. Those EL34s/6CA7s tubes are well known as a crystal crispy...

Re: Noise troubleshooting
Dummy load = phantom load. The right name is dummy load. Also is good to have another very important tool on hand: A Variac transformer with Amp meter.
Happy listen to all.

Re: Noise troubleshooting
Even a little bit more about playing safe on tubes...they should not be turned on without any load. I use a big 4 ohms resistors...not speakers while I am servicing them. The transformers must have at least a phantom load. But for a minute or so, it is safe, specially without any input voltage. if y...

Re: Noise troubleshooting
If you are trying to find a problem, the only way is turning the unit on without any connection. If you want to play safe, make a short to the RCA cable, and there will be no problem. Shorting the cable will prevent any odd noise or a possible oscillation. We are talking CJ here. If the amp is bad, ...

Re: Noise troubleshooting
That's not right. You can do it without any problem. I have being servicing a lot of different brands over more than 50 years and the truth is, there is no reason why you should not do it. When turning the tube amp off, you must wait at least 1 minute before you reconnect something. Tubes are still ...

Re: Noise troubleshooting
To make sure from where the hum is coming, I suggest to disconnect the RCA cable from the input of the amplifier y turn it on. Is there hum?, No?, might be the RCA cable or from the preamp to the amp. Still noise? So disconnect the inputs in the preamp a leave only a connection from the output of th...

Re: Noise troubleshooting
Well said Admin. Usually that noise is coming from a small signal tube. Just swap the suspect and have a listen. It is always wise to turn off the preamp while doing the swapping. Yes I know it takes more time...this is the safer way to do this kind of job.

Re: Loud static from a loudspeaker when I approach it
Hola, just thinking loud, do you have a good earth connected to your system? This might discharge the possible static electricity that it is build up to ground.
