Re: Bluesound Node - Round 1

AJ, Sorry to hear all the troubles. First unit a dud, now this. So much for plug and play. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the BluOS controller on Mac. It does have a minimum Mac OS version of: v10.9 . So check that first I suppose. Bluesound has a pretty active support community. Yo...

Re: Bluesound Node - Round 1

Each platform has it's pros and cons. You can play around with all these options for awhile and when you decide on the best one for you then stick with that (or keep them all in the system). BTW- if you want absolute simplicity for your wife. Get an Amazon Echo (they are on sale for $15 currently). ...

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

The downfacing ports may be causing a lot of this distortion as that port is essentially firing into a 3 sided box. If you can, try doing some of the stuff I talked about above and let us see what we can do. I'm not giving up on this. I think there is room for improvement. EDIT: We're posting rapidl...

Re: Short Dropouts streaming to an external DAC

I think we are discussing this in two threads. But to summarize: 1) I would turn off all jitter correction in all units (source and DAC). See if the dropouts go away. If so, then it's a jitter correction compatibility issue, go to step 2. If not, then look at cables, connection type, or a dreaded eq...

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

This is definitely a tough room. No doubt. You do have some things working for you however. The room is symmetric, you are able to have you listening position centered, and nothing blocking direct line of sign to the speakers. So at least those are positives. So I know that for aesthetics and space ...

Re: Short Dropouts streaming to an external DAC

Different sources and DACs will employ technology to limit jitter. I can see how this introduces some incompatibility, especially with higher bitdepth and sampling rate audio. I have to admit that I have not had any audio dropout as a result of this. I think jitter is like ground loops. In some syst...

Re: Bluesound Node - Round 1

Very good. I'm glad it's working. I think you will get the hang of BluOS very quickly so I wouldn't be worried about that. Now just have some fun with it!

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

White noise tests are meaningless. If using a full spectrum equalizer, agree, white noise tests are not very helpful. However, if one only has access to a single balance control, then they can be utilized. His data don’t show a problem. I'm looking at his uncorrected frequency sweep. At above 400 h...

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

5. If you want more bass and more dynamics and more volume, with no need of sub, get the Klipsch. I don't think there is any need for a sub in this system. The uncorrected frequency sweep already shows an exaggerated low end above 25 hz or so. FWIW, I don’t see any sign of a defective speaker. I se...

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

Not that near, they are 15 cm away, Ah, well that is very near... I guess it's all relative. Mine are about 2 meters off the wall. At less than a meter, there can be a very significant increase in the lower frequencies. The real issue I have is that I found to have one speaker 10-15 dB louder than ...

Wow, that is a massive spike in the 60-200hz region. Pretty unusual. Do you have your speakers close to the corner of the room?

Re: Alex's CJ System

Very nice. I too have found something special about R2R DACs. I personally went with the Holo Audio May KTE edition DAC.

The new CJ phono preamps are amazing, but as you mentioned,... expensive.

Again, great setup, congrats.

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

Are you having a problem with not enough low end? I'm usually in the camp of spending money on quality not amplitude. Unless there is some major drop off in the lower frequencies, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you think there is, you can confirm that with a calibration mic and frequency swe...

Very cool.

Great looking setup. So you are basically biamping?

What do you think about the Denafrips DAC? I was looking at that when I was considering a DAC upgrade a little while back.

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

I didn't realize that the Definitive Technologies had a self powered bass component. The pictures on the website don't show any cables going into them and I didn't see a power cord input. Yeah, agree with AJ, keep away from the DT, you are asking for trouble and most likely disappointment.

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

Hmmm... again, not sure what significant improvement one of these models has over the other. Yeah, the Definitive Technology, uses side firing bass woofers, and that may have a bigger influence in some rooms (especially small ones). But it's not like side vs front bass woofers are some magic recipe ...

Re: Go for Klipsch RP-8000F II ?

In all honesty I would put both these speakers roughly in the same category. I think the CAV50 will have ample power to drive both speakers. The Klipsch is more sensitive, but the focals are overall sensitive speakers as well. So unless you plan to blast them in some huge room, you will be perfectly...

I guess this jives with the "high end is swelling well" that we have been hearing from manufacturers.

That is a good thing for our hobby,... even if it causes some frustration for us!

Re: Amazon Music and how to get true lossless bitperfect HD/Ultra HD to play

Once more than one thing is changed, I find it impossible to determine the cause of a grounding issue,... if that was the cause of the dropout in the first place. But in all honesty, a single fraction of a second dropout every few hours of listening probably wouldn't bother me too much. If it was ha...
