Re: Two Possibilities
I'm glad you like it, Roberto. I find myself playing it a couple of times a week and so far still find it worth the listen. To me it doesn't neatly fall into one particular genre although maybe jazz or world music approach as good a classification as any. The North African vibe comes through at time...

Re: Headphone amp connectivity to ET5
The only time I use headphones is when listening to music playing from my laptop. Nothing occurs to me other than what's been suggested, and the budgetary constraint might be a limiting factor for anything other than y-splitters.

Re: Burmester 911 mk3 and CJ inverting Preamps
I seem to remember at least one CJ preamp I owned that did not invert all sources. ??? I'm not sure about other models but I do know the PV10A did not invert phase for the phono at the Tape Out ("Phase: phono stage is phase correct at tape out") but all sources including the phono were in...

Re: Burmester 911 mk3 and CJ inverting Preamps
I was just thumbing through the 50th anniversary TAS issue and saw an advertisement for a phono preamp from Japanese manufacturer Zanden that mentions phase inversion. A visit to their website reveals that all five of their line stage and phono stage preamplifiers include phase inversion switches. h...

Re: Burmester 911 mk3 and CJ inverting Preamps
The DirectStream DAC has an inversion In/Out button on their remote marked "Phase". Quite honestly most times I can't tell a lick of difference but when I do, as you said, one presentation sounds a tiny bit more open/airy. My ears are old and the system is okay but far, far from SOTA but e...

Re: Odd comparo upcoming
admin raises a good point and it's a classic example of decontenting. Why not save $X by having the customer use his/her own phone instead of supplying them with a remote? The manufacturer picks up the difference in cost while charging the same for the product. It's just like a "pound" can...

Re: Evolution 20 questions
Both my old 17LS and 16LS2 made that click/clack sound although I heard it from the preamps only not also from my speakers. Initially with the 17LS I found it distracting but in short order I got to depend on it as an auditory cue which pretty much eliminated having to look at the preamp. Plus, c'mo...

I reluctantly agree with you both. But it was a wish list, right?

Re: CJ wish list...
I'd second the wish for a solid state integrated. My CA200 must be rounding its 20th birthday and as well-made as it may be it isn't going to last forever. With any luck it'll outlast me but what about the young-uns? Does it sound as good as the 16LS2/140 it replaced? Nope but at 38 pounds versus th...

How very nice you got to spend some time with him. Those times together are indeed to be cherished.

Thank you for filling so many of the blank spots in the story and tying in the other brands. So informative!

Re: Sanders Sound System ???
Agree with you, AJ. I only skimmed the review but I thought the concluding remarks were over the top and too effusive as well. The speaker systems at the NY Audio Show where I heard the Sanders system that I enjoyed the most were KEF (their Blade and even the little LS50), TAD (Model 1?) and Zellato...

Re: Sanders Sound System ???
I was going off the $20k price on his website which needs to be updated obviously. I do not remember it as sounding great -- good, maybe very good but not great. On the other hand this was at an audio show and not a dealer EDIT: Okay, I see why the price difference. The base price for the system is ...

Re: Sanders Sound System ???
A telltale difference between the ML speakers and the Sanders is that the ML have a 30° curved electrostaic panel while the Sanders are flat. Admittedly $20k is not an insignificant amount but when you consider that includes the speakers + 1 Magtech amp + the LMS electronics maybe not such a high pr...

Re: ART88 on the cover of HI-FI+ magazine
When I bought my 16LS2 from a couple in Hollywood Hills (what a frickin' house and stereo they had) it came with 6922 tubes labelled Made in Slovakia. They were excellent.

Yes, that quote you mention is attributed to Voltaire.
Both hold, I think, but I may be derailing this thread.

Re: Is the ET5 built better than the ET7 ?
"The good is the enemy of the best." First recorded as an Italian proverb in 1603, this aphorism has been discussed by many thinkers including Voltaire and Shakespeare. There is general agreement that the meaning of the proverb is that always striving for something better keeps us from ap...

Re: Sanders Sound System ???
From a review of Roger Sanders' Eros loudspeakers by Larry Greenhill about 20 years ago: "I was trading e-mails with Roger Sanders, manufacturer of the Eros Mk.III electrostatic (ESL) loudspeakers, when it occurred to me to ask him about his name. I was struck that he had the same last name as ...
