Re: Recent Website Reliability Problems
I don't know if this'll help or just muddy the waters because it's irrelevant but between December 22nd to just after the New Year I wasn't able to log onto the site. My laptop would continue clocking until finally it'd give the message "Hmm...can't reach this page." I cleared the cache re...

The tube replacement set (RT55) on the Conrad Johnson website lists 6CA7/EL34 for the output tubes for the MV-55.

Re: GL KT88's?
The New Sensor Gold Lion KT88s will produce a bit more output at the same volume settings due to their 42 watts plate dissipation versus the 35 for the 6550C. I found transients a little more pronounced with the 6550C when used in the 11A and the 140. At the time (10 years ago), the GL KT88 and the ...

The small signal tubes on the 11 were also originally GE.

Re: CJ Supplied tubes (Stock)
Yes, the Premier 11 pictured in Wes Phillips' October 2, 1994 Stereophile review of the Premier Eleven depicts GE 6550A output tubes. https://www.stereophile.com/tubepoweramps/403/index.html As supplies of the GE 6550A became scarce, CJ used SED 6550C and once those were gone they recommended the Ne...

Re: Premier 11 v. Classic 120
I went from a Premier 11A to a Pr 140 and the difference was not subtle. When I had the C1 upgrade done to the 140 the difference was even more pronounced. If the golden glow is a factor I'd avoid the 140. The 140 is not in the same league as the newer/newest CJ designs but it was a predecessor -- a...

Just a thought and I don't know if it's in your budget but have you considered the C1 upgrade for your Premier 11?

Re: Sheffield Lab Direct to Disc listing
Many are actually quite a bit more than $300.
The most expensive I've seen was $1.500 but I have no idea how high it really goes. Most appear to be from $500 to $1,000.

Re: Premier 17ls pre amp tube question
It sounds as if you are saying that these different types are indeed generically equivalent, but only as a group of four--not to mix individually or in pairs. Yep, that's what I meant. In re-reading what I said about American tubes it may sound like I was being negative about them. If that's the wa...

Re: Premier 17ls pre amp tube question
6DJ8 = ECC88 6922 = E88CC 7308 = E188CC 7DJ8 = PCC88 Generally speaking they are interchangeable so if a piece of equipment comes standard with a 6DJ8 you could substitute a 6922 or a 7308 (assuming the equipment manufacturer does not specifically state it shouldn't be done). But they are different ...

Re: Premier 17ls pre amp tube question
My experience when I had the 17LS was with non-current production tubes so I'll leave the sound characteristics primer to others. That having been said, and no disrespect intended, you do realize that the Amperex ECC88 are 6DJ8 tubes and the Genalex E88CC are 6922? I had always read that it's a no-n...

I see what you mean about the Van Elslander home in terms of modern style in places and a little overboard but still it's a good deal above the typical McMansions.

Re: subwoofer
I could definitely be wrong on this but there are no CJ amplifiers, integrateds, etc that have speakon connectors. CJ uses standard 5 way binding posts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speakon_connector https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/36/Connectors_of_a_QSC_PLX2402_professional_...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been
It's true. We had our Gilded Age during the final quarter of the 19th Century when the ultra-rich of the time built the American equivalent of castles and mansions along the Hudson Valley, Providence/Newport RI and in California but at this point they're primarily museums. No one lives there anymore...
