Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Old QLS's. One Watkins on the bottom, one midbass-coupler, six midrange-domes and 8 EMIT's and one EMIT firing backwards. IRS BETA 1B? There was a IRS, IRS 1B (smaller IRS version with no 1.5 kW active driving on the woofertower like its bigger brother) and the IRS Beta the successor of the IRS 1B. ...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Hi RJ, Yep, on it's bottom! Even admin with his EVO2000 couldn't find it on its own amp. I probably have an EVO2000 in three weeks as a companion for my EVO20SE. Would love to have a PREM One B but I also heard great things about the EVO2000 and an opportunity to score one in France did it for me. I...

Frenchman send me a picture of his serialnumber of his EVO2000 and it's on the bottom as I predicted.

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Could ask Jeff Fischel?
I think it's on the bottom then.
Can't be without a serial.
Thanks for your effort though.
Hope I have one this year, the amplifier itself I mean

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
MLAS, I'll take a look at mine when I get home today to see the exact location of the serial number sticker. As for the weight, it does have a number of very large caps that weight a substantial amount. Okay great thank you. Well I've handled a lot of those blue 3 inch in diameter and heights up to...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Hi again,
Where can you find the serialnumber and other nomenclatura on the EVO2000.
Can't see much on the back where it normally is, but the protruding heatsinks are taking up that space.
Why is it so heavy? It doesn't even have the two outputtransformers like on the One and Four.
Thanks

Re: Conrad Johnson Premier One
Thanks for your kind words RJ. I'm not much for the beer and buffalo wings, although Belgian beer is great over here, but I do get what you mean about priorities and I have to make both end ends meet nowadays due to a divorce.... As said before on this forum, I don't find the overall construction of...

Re: Conrad Johnson Premier One
Six years later.... 8-) I lust for that amp! Well I would try 12 brand new Genalex Gold Lion KT88's. It's retaining the best virtues of the delicate and soft toned EL-34 - used in the 1986 'B' version of the One to offer two stereo amps a 100 watt Premier Four, a 150 Watt Premier 1B and the 200 Watt...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
No the 7500,00 Eur or 16.000 Dutch guilders was the new price in 1991 - 1994 in the Netherlands for both the 2000 and 20SE That was one of the reasons besides the dominant position of Audio Research, why they did not sell a lot of them. In the US the price was 4995,00 USD not cheap either but more a...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Was in NY City and New England in 2015 but even then I still have to pay the shipping (which would be very expensive on a commercial liner) and taxes. Just have to be very patient for an EVO2000 (that's the one I gonna settle for I think, that's your fault ;-)). Should be around a couple per decade ...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Yes any goods and shippingcosts private or commercial from outside the EU get taxed with VAT and import duties and an administration fee of around 20 Euro's on top of that for the shipper that hands it over to our customs. Sometimes it takes two weeks after arrival on EU territory before the customs...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Yes this was certainly the case when the local distributor could set the retail price and effectively blocking parallel import due to the voltageconversion and lack of service and warranty for the so-called grey import. Nowadays it's still not very attractive for us in te EU to import from the US be...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
I've had Magnepans Tympani's in the late eighties and I remembered them to be a fairly easy an flat 4 Ohm load but only 82 dB/1 Watt/1 meter efficiency so I drove them with a Krell KSA-100 and got the best bass I've ever heard from the loudspeakers I've had. Maybe you have a different impedence-curv...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
Thanks for your elaborate reply. I forgot to say that I already have a Krell (SS amp) to power my Watkins woofers. So I would need an amp for my mid/highs. It seemed to me that the EVO2000 amp would complement my EVO20SE pre, but that's merely an aesthetic argument of course :D Your EVO2000 looks pr...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review
How does this hybrid amp compare to the Premier One, Four or Fives?
I've had the Fives sold them (I still have a EVO20SE luckily) and I'm now looking for a Four (One is a sota object and therefore much to expensive no real dollar for the value IMO).

Re: Difference between a Evolution 20 and 20SE
Yes I have had contact with Jeff Fischel before regarding my Premier Five amps. If you look at the Premier Seven B comments (introduced in 1992 the same year as the EVO20SE) on the CJ corporate site you find this: "The Premier Seven-B switched to machined oxygen free copper input/output jacks, ...

Re: Difference between a Evolution 20 and 20SE
Just a small update from one of the designers of the EVO20: " I did work for CJ during that period and did the mechanical drawings and circuit board designs for the EV20, though the details of all that do fade with time. I do vaguely remember that there were two iterations of the EV20, but I th...
