Re: The CJ GAT S2 Preamp

It sounds like we shared similar experiences. The other lines in stores in my experience over the years (not all at once) included Harmon Kardon, Sansui, Kenwood, Revox, Tandberg, Bozak, Altec Lansing, JBL, Klipsch, Bose, ADS, Fulton, Magnepan, B&O, AKG, Shure, Stanton, Ortofon, Signet, SME, Rab...

Re: The CJ GAT S2 Preamp

No the stores I worked at principally carried McIntosh, Audio Research, Marantz for their high end electronics. This was during college in Seattle, and then after college in San Diego covering the period from 1970 to almost 1980 (approximately). Conrad Johnson is my choice now because of my dealer. ...

Re: The CJ GAT S2 Preamp

As a recent purchaser of a GAT/2 myself I share your enthusiasm. On the other hand you will pardon me for being skeptical of your, or any other's, claim to be able to recollect what something sounded like 2 months ago. Frankly our auditory memories have been stretched at just a few minutes, which ha...

Re: New ART 150

RJ, Yes your's is a completely different looking unit. And yes mine is the PS Audio of Paul McGowan and it is a quite outstanding device. But you still don't need one based on the superior electrical service you describe. At least I admitted up front I didn't know about Thor. Judging from what you h...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

That's great to hear and good to know the GAT is settling in nicely. Now, with that same album you just described above, disconnect that power conditioner and have a listen. You should have all your components plugged into a very high quality power board, either a Nordost Qbase 8 or something simil...

Re: New ART 150

In last month's issue of Stereophile there is a good write up on the PS20, which I commend to your attention. I plug and unplug things from my PS20 all the time and in fact the ARTsa and GAT are plugged into the wall directly just now, because I was experimenting over the weekend. My ears tell me th...

Re: New ART 150

RJ, An interesting post. I am not familiar with the Thor part, but the PS10 is very familiar to me. I recently upgraded from a PS10 to a PS20, but and this is the kicker, the Thor part. Are they the same? Too the PS10 or PS20 that I am familiar with is not a power conditioner, it is a regulated powe...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

Hi RJ, The GAT and I are settling in nicely thank you. I listen to it several hours every day, with perhaps 2 hours or so of intense or critical listening. Then my brain fizzles and the music just washes over me. But that is ok too, because it is conditioning therapy. As I said in an earlier post, t...

Re: New ART 150

Bear, Everything that RJ said is correct AFAIK. I would like to add that all Klipsch speakers are very easy loads for any amplifier to drive. From a power point of view you will never tax your Classic 62SE driving your LaScala IIs. Never. So the principle difference in sound between the 62SE and the...

ET6 replaces ET3

There is an SE version too, with a lot of Teflon. Both versions available with phono sections. The website says a lot of ET7 technology was transferred over to it as well. Whereas the ET3 hit way above it's weight, my surmise is the ET6 is going to be stellar. On another note, I also see an advertis...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

Well, err, ehm, ahh...let me just say that dipoles are not my cuppa. Honestly, I have listened to any number of speakers and the only ones that I like as well, but not better than my Sony SS ARs are the Blades. Thanks much for your help on the GAT, BTW. My next moves may be to try and give a listen ...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

My dealer offer is $4K, so if someone here in the forum wants it that would be the price. It is in perfect condition and would come with a new tube, either an EH or a Philips, buyer's option. I have the manual, the power cord, the box and all packing material. It is located in South Florida. Shippin...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

Here is what I did upon arrival home last weekend. After a good night's sleep I hooked up the GAT/2 and set the ET5 aside on the basis that I know the ET sound intimately already anyway. I already had established that the GAT/2 is quieter and has a much bigger sound stage. And I like the idea that t...

Re: ET3 and ET5 Tube Rolling

I am reporting back as promised. The tube I am using is the Philips E88CC, a NOS military tube from the 1960s. Jeff at cj can supply them. They are the best tube overall that I have tried. They sound warmer overall than the EH and hold up just as well. The EH tube is good too, sharper, brighter. The...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

Although it is certainly true that the build quality of the ET5 exceeds that of the ET7, it is not axiomatic that build quality equates to sound quality. I can think of any number of beautifully built components over the years that disappoint in terms of sound quality. My all time leader in that reg...

Re: Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

Thanks for your response RJ. Back when I bought the ET5 it was described to me a 1/2 of the original GAT, or put another way, the original GAT is essentially two ET5s, one for each channel. It has the same caps and so on. And in fact when I compared them that is pretty much how they sounded, that is...

Re: ET3 and ET5 Tube Rolling

I am away from home this week and will post again upon my return. In my ET5 the tube gets noisy after 6-8 months, but I use my system every day for several hours, so that must be taken into account. I am using a Philips military spec tube that is NOS that seems to sound really good and holds up well...

Have GAT/2 and ET5 on hand need advice

My dealer gave me a GAT/2 to compare to my much loved ET5. Problem is I had only Saturday afternoon to listen before heading out of town for a week for work. I will have another day or so to form an opinion at the end of this coming week before a decision must be reached on whether to buy the GAT. W...

Re: Good news for the ET-7

This is very good news indeed and I applaud Jeff for reconsidering and offering to mod ET7s. It is the right thing to do and certainly good news for owners. Once again my faith in cj is confirmed. Wonderful. As for myself, I will continue to struggle along with my old rusty ET5, which truth be told ...
