Re: ET3 and LP66S

Well it took much longer to fix my ML dac than expected. Pyramid Audio in Austin didn't tell me they were already 4-5 weeks back logged when I sent it. Anyway, I spoke w/ them yesterday and it's fixed. It did have a blown fuse, but the interesting thing is they replaced 78 caps. Yes that's a total o...

Re: New ET-3

I've really enjoyed my ET3. C-J said that to upgrade mine to SE it would cost $2100 + S&H. But I cannot find a reason why I should because it sounds great as is. I would unload your Classic on AG. Ask a fair price & someone will buy it. The only other c-j pre I've owned was a Sonographe SC26...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

Naw the cable box died two months ago, the dac just the other day. What I'm thinkin' now is to go ahead & get the Oppo 105 and have one universal do everything player. This will clear away three devices. But this ML dac is worthless dead considering how much I paid for it. A factory 360S is wort...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

On another note my old cable box croaked. It was during a storm so I think a surge got it either through the wall or cable. Luckily I had the main power off to the rest of the system & TV or I might have lost a piece or two. I now have a really small cable box and it's so much better both in ter...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

I don't know why or how, but my Mark Levinson 360S dac is dead. The display won't light up and there is no sound. I can hear a click when I unplug it and plug it back in, but other than that, nothing. Also, the case is warm to the touch like it's in stand by mode. The owners manual says a fuse could...

Re: What have you been watching?

Watched Oblivion on Blu-ray today. Actually it was a very decent movie. A most unique story. The FX was excellent and the music score top notch. I recommend it. Looking forward to Star Trek Into Darkness Sep 10. At least that's what the Best Buy web site says. Pat

Re: What have you been listening to?

There's nothing to indicate it's a multi-channel disc. Since the original was 2 ch, that's what I hear. $30 isn't that bad so go for broke and get it. You know you want it Admin. Pat

Re: What have you been listening to?

Acquired this week through Music Direct is the SACD of Blade Runner soundtrack. I've got the original late 80's version of this soundtrack and I know it well. The SACD is a considerable improvement. My original has 8 tracks, the SACD has 12. Plus each track is longer. The quality of the re-mastering...

Re: What have you been watching?

Well in the last week I saw Hansel & Gretel. It was entertaining actually even though it was a short movie (<90 min). I also watched Jack Reacher. Let's just say I saw that movie ONCE! And over the weekend I saw Man of Steel at the cinema. I will buy that on Blu-ray. That is all, Pat.

Re: Favorite cable company?

I found a good HDMI cable w/ Ethernet from partsexpress dot com (part # 180-674) that has the same video quality as my $100 AQ brand. This cable is very small, flexible, & cheap in price. It doesn't have the weight to stress the video inputs which is my pet peeve. Also, my bro told me that when ...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

Ya the display lights up HDCD if it detects one. I was playing the soundtrack to American Beauty by Thomas Newman. That's another one of those secretly hidden HDCD discs I have that has no indication that it's coded that way. The only problem I have w/ this dac is the previous owner sent me a PSAudi...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

Well I must say right out of the box this Mark Levinson dac is a step up from the Adcom it replaced. I'll do a separate review of it later on, but attached is a pic. Pat

Re: New ET-3

Ray, I'm no authority on c-j, but in the pic of the ET3 you have there, what is that large white cylinder directly behind the display and in front of the tube? When I opened my ET3 up to replace the tube, it was loose in my unit. Someone had forgotten to zip tie it down and mine was moving back n' f...

Re: What have you been listening to?

Yesterday I finally got a SACD of Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here. Comes in a nice hard cover book style case with post cards too. Nice touch at $34.99 through Music Direct. As remasters go, it's one of the better ones that I've heard. All I can say is that I'm very pleased with it and I recommend i...

Re: What is phase inversion and what do I do about it?

I bought a Nordost System set-up and tuning disc from Music Direct when I was setting up my pre. It has a track on the disc which will help you make sure your in phase. It's also got plenty of other tests you can conduct with pink noise, white noise, frequency checks, and a burn in track. It was ver...

Re: Teac A-H01 USB receiver

It's rated at 25w into 8 ohms and 50w into 4. The speakers I'm using are 8 ohms. But power isn't the issue b/c they're on the desk & I'm sitting right in front of them so they don't have to be loud to sound good. I guess you could use any monitor between 4-8 ohms. Aside from the dac that is new,...

Re: Adcom GDA-700

Just some simple changes on this dac. I bought a used pr of Nordost Red Dawn flat line (1M) to connect to the ET3. Still has a similar sound to the Blue heavens, but adds some smoother lower frequencies. I believe I've kept a consistent sound using the same maker of cables. For the most part now I u...
