Re: Greetings from Madison, WI

Welcome, Mike.

And congratulations on your soon-to-be acquisition of a 250. I think you'll be very happy with it.

Re: Preamp Choice

Unfortunately, the seller sent the monitors parcel post from Florida despite our agreement to use priority mail. So I won't have them until the first week of Dec instead of tomorrow! Ouch! Peter, if it's doable, one other treatment point to consider is the midpoint of the front wall, or more precis...

Re: Preamp Choice

If you don't like a "bright" sound, I would encourage you to put as much carpeting, tapestries, acoustic paneling (if it fits the decor), large pieces of furniture, etc into that room as possible. The more dampening material you have, the less bright it will be. True enough regarding &quo...

Re: Preamp Choice

My experience with the 17LS coupled to a solid-state c-j MF2500 encompasses driving a pair of Magnepan 1.6QR planars in a 29'x14'x7'9" dedicated room that I had to evacuate to accommodate other living priorities and Paradigm SE-3 cone speakers in an almost equally sized but heavily "lived-...

Re: Do you listen to music in the dark?

I guess I've somehow arrived at the point where I can tune out the visual distractions without having to close my eyes or darken the room, although at one time that mode seemed to offer a more persuasively-rendered illusion of what was occurring in the recording/mixing venue. Or maybe at my age I'm ...

Re: Main System - Premier 17LS & MF2500

Primary listening is about evenly divided between vinyl and CD/SACD, with program consisting mostly of classical, jazz, vocal standards, and film scores. FM is typically tuned to one of two 24/7 listener-supported stations, one classical, one jazz, with particular attention devoted to weekly recorde...

Main System - Premier 17LS & MF2500

My main audio system resides in the living/dining room area, where it shares space with a 40" flat-screen TV, and consists of: SOTA Sapphire TT/Profile (rebadged Jelco) tonearm/Grado Prestige Gold cartridge Graham Slee Era Gold V MM phono stage Oppo BDP-83 BluRay/SACD/CD player McIntosh MR77 FM...

Re: Sonographe SC25/SA250 Bedroom System

I don't know any "secrets" offhand, but on FM the classical station I frequent (KWAX in Eugene, OR)--particularly on recorded-live broadcasts of symphony orchestra (e.g., the San Francisco SO and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw)--sounds noticeably more dynamic in its presentation than the output...

Re: Sonographe SC25/SA250 Bedroom System

There's also a Mc MR77 in the main (living room) system and an MR74 to be installed in the home office system (when I get around to building a decent equipment cabinet for the tuner, Counterpoint line stage, and SA250 that reside or are slated to live there). All the tuners as well as the Sonographe...

Re: Sonographe SC25/SA250 Bedroom System

The traps atop the lowboy dresser, atop the nightstand, and alongside the closet are four-foot-tall 9-inchers. The floor-mounted corner trap is a six-foot-tall 11-incher. In each case, the diffuser side of the trap is pointed outward into the room. Even with bedding and carpet there's still a large ...

Sonographe SC25/SA250 Bedroom System

Cramped, furniture-stuffed, and somewhat asymmetrical as my 11'x13' bedroom is, I still manage to elicit a fairly decent sonic presentation from a system consisting of: McIntosh MR-77 FM tuner tethered to cheap Home Depot-sourced rabbit ears Motorola DCH 3200 cable box (for cable music classical, ja...

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest

Nice to find a dedicated c-j owners' site. My c-j roster includes a Premier 17LS/MF2500 combination front-ending the main system, a Sonographe SC25/SA250 setup in the bedroom, and another SA250 in my home office. All of it happy-camper gear.

Re: Ye Olde Sonographe 250

I have two SA-250's, one in my bedroom system (tethered to an SC25 preamp) and the other in my home office (coupled to a Counterpoint SA-2000 line stage), driving standmounted Paradigm SE-1's in both cases. I acquired both via eBay. One (along with the SC25) arrived in pristine condition, the other ...
