Re: What have you been watching?

Watched Brave w/ my niece. An entertaining movie over all. Later I watched the new Amazing Spiderman flick. As I was watching it, I couldn't help but notice the score was very familiar. Watching the end credits I saw that it was by James Horner. He's my #1 fav composer. I have many soundtracks by hi...

Re: What have you been listening to?

I didn't think anyone knew of Jon and Vangelis. I have 3 CDs by them: Friends of Mr. Cairo, Private Collection, & Short Stories. They are some of the oldest discs in my collection. My other Vangelis discs are: Direct, Mythodea, Oceanic, Chariots of Fire, 1492-Conquest of Paradise, The City, Chin...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

I leave the cage on. I have too b/c sometimes my 10 month old puppy will be around (she vary rarely ventures into the listening room) so it's for safety. When it's off, these new tubes are a little brighter than the stock Flying C tubes were. I also listen to music in a dark room, but I do like a li...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

Well my LP66S is back to life thx to new 6550EH tubes. Right now it sounds a bit lean, but they're new and will improve with time. Thus far the initial bias is holding and I have not tweaked them yet. :D I hope my pic highlights them well. If your curious to know they fit under the cage just fine. Pat

Re: Sonographe SC25/SA250 Bedroom System

I like it! That Mc tuner is most righteous. Now I'm going to see if I can find one within reason. :D I'm a former owner of a Sonographe SC26 & SA250 before I moved up into tubes so I know how they can sound. I luv how you did that system with affordable quality gear. Good show guy!

Re: ET3 and LP66S

Just updating, I have ordered new Electro-Harmonix 6550EH quad set to retube the LP66S. Hopefully they will arrive soon & my amp will be up again. It still works fine, but I know that one tube is bad and another I've had to rebias a few times. Given it's age and use it's time. Pat Edit 10/28/12:...

Re: What have you been watching?

Watched Prometheus on Blu-ray today. Visually it's right there in effects similar to Avatar. The music score is good too. For a sci-fi movie, the plot is decent and there's an actual story in there. I recommend it. I also saw The Avengers this week. It was entertaining. Two movies that I thought tot...

Re: Hiss/white noise ET5

Just to let you that your not alone in hearing hiss. My ET3 does it. Perhaps I should inquire about it as well. As ralphf said, I wonder if my speakers with their 94dB sensitivity could be the problem? I hear no hiss with just the amp on. When my pre finally clicks on, it's quite obvious. But once t...

Re: Adcom GDA-700

Ya the Marantz player I have doesn't decode HDCD. If for any reason my Yamaha Blu-ray player bites the dust, I'll get a much better universal Blu-ray from either Oppo or Cambridge Audio that can do it all. Then both the Marantz & Adcom are heading for the secondary market. You probably noticed t...

Adcom GDA-700

I haven't posted anything here for a while, but a change was made to my system that I thought was notable. Last week I bought off eBay a used Adcom GDA-700 d/a converter. With shipping it was $278. A bargain considering long ago it was about a grand new. For some time I knew I had discs encoded with...

Re: ET3 and LP66S

I do mostly music in 2 ch. I have a unique set up for home theater b/c I can only do 3.0. I have the Yamaha Blu-ray players ctr ch output directly to the Marantz mono-bloc. It has it's own input level on the back. Then I pipe the output for 2 ch to the ET3. It actually works well. I use the Kimber P...

Howdy from Chicagoland

I was very pleased to see a dedicated c-j forum. I'm certainly not the authority on c-j products. In fact I still don't understand what makes a tube do what it does. I just know that they sound great and my amp makes for a great space heater. My first round of c-j products was back in 1995 when I sp...

ET3 and LP66S

Howdy y'all from Chicagoland! I just learned of this web site today from a link in Audiogons virtual systems gallery. This is the first c-j tubes I've ever owned. I bought the LP66S about two yrs ago & bought the ET3 a yr later. Note that the pre is not the SE version. Along with my c-j gear, I ...
