Re: Tea1 series 2

I know CJ would disagree but that's my experience. Normal listening levels are between 30 and 45.

Re: Tea1 series 2

Yes it works with no overload but you volume will be high. As for moving coils you cannot go much below 1mv on the Premier 15 without losing dynamic range and raised noise levels. With my Benz Ruby H (0.7mv) i am using a 1:10 step up. With this setup i am getting some of the best vinyl playback i ev...

Re: Tea1 series 2

You are correct of course but do remember that cj preamps are zero feedback and thus have 20db or more gain on their own. Most preamps top at 10db. I have the Premier 15 plugged into an ACT2 can can tell you that I cannot go much beyond a volume of 20 with a 5mv cartridge. Even with the volume at 1 ...

Re: Tea1 series 2

A 5mv cartridge will not overload the phone stage but you will have way too much gain. 2.5mv will work fine.

Re: MF2500 throwing 68 DCvolt out on right channel

Most likely it's the output transistors failed. It's not unlikely they took out other parts as well. The amp needs to be professionally serviced.

Re: new ET-7, the replacement for the ET-5

To me the ET7 seems to be built to a much lower and cheaper standard than the ET5. For year a cu took pride in the fact that they are not using electrolytic caps in the signal path and it's related power supplies. That no longer is the case. I can't comment on the sound of the ET7 but parts costs ar...

Re: CJ Classic 62SE broken tube!

Just get a new single tube. You don't need matches tubes in the Classic 62. Get a good tube from a reputable source.

Just a note, you also need to adjust the bias point when converting the amplifier to triode.

Hi Anthony

I have not tried this. Might try it some day but everything sounds so good right now that I am not very motivated to make changes.

Re: Any one thinking about a GAT Series 2 preamp?

Coppy, I also prefer the GL kt88 to the KT120. Another option is the Mullard kt88 which is virtually identical to the Gold Lion at a lower price. Every report i read said they are virtually identical which I confirmed myself.

Re: Hum problem with LP125m SE

A quick update. Floating the ground on both mono blocks completely solves the problem. I am not very comfortable with this solution but when doing so the amps are 100% silent. Next step would probably be to route a dedicated line from the breaker board to the listening room. Currently I am using a T...

Re: The Formidable Renaissance 15

Hi RJ, 6 or so years ago I had a ML Spire after selling the Ascent i I previously had. I loved the Spire very much but when the opportunity came to get a Sonus Faber Amati Anniversario I could not pass it, sold the Spire and bought the Amati's. I remember when I first got the SF Amati Anniversario I...

Modifying a Premier 15 Phono Stage

Hi all, I have always found the subsonic filter on my Premier 15 useless. I am currently working on a simple and small project to modify the Premier 15 subsonic filter function to become a Stereo/Mono switch instead. I find that a stereo/mono switch in a phono preamp is much more useful that a subso...

Re: Hum problem with LP125m SE

Haven't had the time to do some more testing. I will try to float the ground in one of the mono blocks to see if that helps. Not a good permanent solution but might help steer me in the right direction. Will update soon.

Thanks for the ideas his far.

Hum problem with LP125m SE

Hi all, Thought someone might help with a fresh thought on this problem I am having. Since I built my new listening room and completed connecting all my gear I am getting fairly laud hum from my LP125 power amps. This is not super laud and when music is playing at reasonable volume you can not hear ...

Re: Searching for best Conrad Johnson phono preamp

Hi Jasper The TEA2 does not have the same quality parts as the pr15. Even in its best form it has electrolytic caps in the power supply where the pr15 is all film caps. It's a much cheaper design than the pr15 overall. Just look at the internals and you will see. Things such as the suspended sub cha...

The Premier 15 is a great photo stage of you can find one. Better than the TEA2 IMO and approaching TEA1 levels although not quite there.

Re: Repair suggestions for PV12 please

CJ preamps do use any negative feedback and thus have fairly high gain, typically 20 or above db. Make sure you are using the right tubes in the PV12. High volume at 9 o'clock position seems a bit extreme.
