For sale, both an MET1 and MET150

Billy, you lucky guy, I'm selling mine--both the MET1 and the MET150. With my increasing age and diminished hearing, I'm turning more into a videot than an audiofool; my system now has a--GASP--A/V preamp/processor (a Marantz AV7704--this year's new model) and both a humble Outlaw 7100 7-channel po...

Re: DNA-750s again.

Well...NOT going to happen. After two offers rejected and my further thinking about the cost--around $2K--of rebuilding the two amps, I withdrew my offer. Today retrieved a Butler TDB 5150 5-channel amp... http://www.butleraudio.com/tdb5150.php ...and will try that for a while. If that sounds great...

Re: What have you been watching?

I've started to look at doing an upgrade to my home theater system in the near future. ... Although the Epson 5400UB is not "full 4K" I hear that it's pixel shifting technology is very good. It's excellent IMO. I'm using the 1080p Epson 4700UB but I'm itching to go full 4K. When I do this...

Re: What have you been watching?

Have upgraded my HT system this summer to UHD3840 and 7.2.4 from 5.2, with a new Oppo '203 DP, Epson '5040UB projector, Marantz '7704 pre/pro/tuner, Revel C208 CC speaker, additional amp channels from an Outlaw 7100 poweramp, and three new pairs of surround/ceiling speakers (ELAC B6s). Will be usin...

DNA-750s again.

Remember that pair of '750s I bought in 2012, substantially modified, and used to drive a pair of Vandersteen 5As? See http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=104073.0 It's highly probable they'll soon be back, to drive a pair of Revel Salon2s next year. (My retirement cash goes only so far. :oo...

Repurchased my ET250S--yaaaaaaaaa!

Am fantisizing about buying a pair of Revel Ultima2 Salon2s, which are rather insensitive* at around 86dB/2.83V/1M and somewhat low impedance, dipping to c. 3 Ohms IIRC. I asked my buddy if he'd sell the '250 back to me and he said yes--so it's staying at my house. I've used this amp with the very ...

Re: CJ Premier 350 and 350SA

Lew johnson told me personally, years ago, that 'SA' means 'Stereo Amp'. So someone may think there is such a thing as, for instance, an ET250 (Enhanced Triode, 250 WPC), but there isn't--it's an 'ET250SA'.

And FWIW, this ET250SA sounds EXCELLENT!

Re: Repair suggestions for PV12 please

On too-much preamp gain GENERALLY...where one runs his preamp-volume control depends on many things: 1. How much gain the preamp has; 2. The taper of the gain control; 3. How loud you want the music to be; 4. How much Voltage gain your poweramp(s) has, and 5. How sensitive your speakers are. One ca...

Re: PV5 - Parts Connexion upgrade

hi-fi and all, just to clearly state my opinions and maybe help others make some decisions, here are some thoughts: 1. C-j's 'styrene-and-foil caps are indeed 5-star-quality caps, but I think the current MultiCap RTXs (also 'styrene-film-and-foil) are a little cleaner sounding. 2. In the PV5 (and mo...

Re: PV5 - Parts Connexion upgrade

The rectangular blue capacitors are definitely original to the PV5. If memory serves me, these are metalized polypropylene.... cjlew, are you really Lew Johnson? :-) WELCOME. I agree with Lew about the blue caps; they are indeed original (I've had my eyes in at least a half-dozen of these and was a...

Re: Changing of the guards

Thanks, the replacement and cost of the tubes are the reasons why I use the Premier 11a in the summertime. .... The many different perspectives on tubed amps interest me. I have a tubes-only c-j preamp, a 6-channel MET1, and I LOVE its sounds and features. But I REALLY LOVE the sounds of all-triode...

Re: Telefunken VS Mullard 12AX7 Tubes

...uhhh...huh? The 6GK5 resembles the 12AX7 only in that both are small vacuumtubes. The former uses 6-Volt filaments, the latter, 12V. The former is a single triode, the latter, dual. The first has 7 pins, the latter, 9.

Did someone tell you this was doable?

Re: The six-channel MET1

...can tubes be changed with the unit in standby mode, or do you need to turn off system (unplug) completely and lose the config settings? I think someone said rail and plate voltage is OFF in standby (standby is not off fully though)...but is that enough to change out the tubes safely? I definitel...

One 'reverses' the SW connection by turning the phase knob to '180' if it was on '0'.

Re: The six-channel MET1

One more quick question regarding the unfamiliar phase inversion the CJ does. I reversed all my main speakers and it's definitely "correct" with them now...but my sub now sounds a little "off" in timing. Would that need to be set on a control for it as well to compensate? Would ...

Re: The six-channel MET1

[quote="scottm_dj"]Ill do that...remove them and install the three new Mullards in L R C and then experiment with the originals to find the two best for the remaining rear channels. Sounds like that rushing noise in the Center just may be the tube... I think those tube guards are to keep k...
