Re: DIY Speaker Feet Coasters with Instructions
Gotta admit, I love it when someone is able to get over on those mega stores. They have all but killed the "small" hardware store where the guy behind the counter knows the thread count and diameter of a screw just by looking at it.....and...has plenty in stock....and if not, will gladly o...

Re: pstrisik's system
Quite the beautiful system there! Wish I could have a listen. I too have hearing issues, but not as severe as yours...well not at least. Very interested in the "nuances" you have accomplished to make the system not so "painful" to you. Im pre hearing aid right now, but as they sa...

Another ripper here as well....figured I would weigh in because I too have been looking for one of theseDACs forever. Came close with the SS model, sounded amazing, even with a mid-fi system. As for the Toslink vs. Coax. You are all right on point, the biggest thing to many purist is that the Toslin...

AOL screw something up? No.....(insert sarcasm here), they were probably paid to shelf it by apple and other competitors. I have been using it since, wow....1998? It was free, easy to use and didnt seem to have any malware bundled....at least not any that you couldnt undo with a custom install. Neve...

Re: What do you sit on for music/movies?
ahh..forget the names of those buzzers....I called them butt shakers, I think that might actually be close to one of the manufacturers. They were also used in car audio for systems that just didnt have the air space to get that "low". Not really meant for the "bass heads"either, ...

Re: Pioneer Elite CLD-97 Laserdisc player AC3 out mod
For a long time I used it as my main CD transport too, hard to beat the build quality of the high end LD players. Was running it to the CJ SS DAC, (its the one pictured with your(and mine) "dream" dac. I found mine on craigslist for a song, hated to sell it, but again...wolves at the door....

I also use Winamp, though have yet to "go Pro" and pay for it. Do you have the full version? ...and if so do you think it was worth it? FWIW, I still set mine back to the original winamp front end, I dunno, guess its just nostalgia. I do have a nifty "Analog" that was from severa...

Re: Pioneer Elite CLD-97 Laserdisc player AC3 out mod
HA! great minds eh? I have many LD, but have been a Sony loyalist since the near beginning. So my main player is a MDP-800, though I do have a regular Pioneer with AC3out, though its mothballed, and finally a Sony Pro unit(the light grey ones), got a deal on it...it plays, but is not reliable....so ...

Re: Jolida JD9 phono preamp Upgrade Guide
Don't be fooled by the $600 price tag, you can get it for less than that. I paid $340 for mine 2 years ago (new). I think I just read on the audiokarma.org thread that somebody had just bought one for $400. It's a bit expensive, but once again, I think the true value is that for under $500 (and som...

Re: Jolida JD9 phono preamp Upgrade Guide
ACK!! a quick search on fleabay....$600 is a deal for something that will rival something costs twice as much or more(I whole hearted agree), but way outta my meager price range(especially for something that I have to throw parts at)....will have to start hunting for one that is very well "used...

Re: value of music
Music, the soundtrack to my life.....been saying that for years. I have played guitar for years, my father's father played guitar on the radio back when the radio was "bluray"....lol was never famous, just loved to play. I grew up listening to my father play with his friends. Got into his ...

I got into BW in HS and College as well. Would of had a minor in it, but they changed the requirements before I graduated, and I was done taking classes that point. I had your typical beginners gear. A friend of mine's dad had a bunch of "old" lenses that fit minolta, so that is what I got...

Re: Jolida JD9 phono preamp Upgrade Guide
Nifty mods there.Nice write up too. What made you decide to replace the opamps? Not being familiar with that circuit, I dont know what exactly is their function. From what I can see those vents are pretty small, and even before you put the damping material in there seemed to be "tracks" go...

Re: Do you like to watch 3D movies?
Honestly have never seen a new one. My Sony XBR and BluRay do just fine as far as I am concerned. Still amazed at certain scenes....like the beginning of The Hulk when they pan down the "slum" area and all the vibrant colors...or even non bluray like Gladiator and the fields he walks throu...

Re: How old were you when you first bought a CJ product?
Technically didnt buy, was given a PV1 instead of a pay check one week. At the time I had no idea what a gift it was. I was just looking for a phono preamp to go with my cheap sony all in one stereo for my dorm room, and had found a love for vinyl. There were a couple record shops in the town I was ...

Ahh....none of you have experienced the wonders of the THUNDER COUCH!!!! Though I wish I could say I came up with this all on my own, an old friend first introduced me to a cheap TC. Basically take a couch or loveseat, or a chair for that matter, though the bigger the better(youll see what I mean in...

Re: PV11 cap replacement, original or upgrade?
I just replaced a little 50v 22uf cap in my PV1 PS, definitely upgrade an upgrade to what was there. Though the 11 and the 1 are literally years apart, CJ is still a business and will use the "best" least expensive parts they can get away with(or have available to them in economy of scale ...
