Re: DAC?

one thing for sure held over from the D-07 is the pitiful translation of the manual... the D-07X manual is brutally confusing the way it's written (or translated, whatever the case may be)

Re: DAC?

Thanks much for that! that's the D-07 over there, not D-07X The 7X is much newer..and one of my hesitations was/is that it has only one or two mentions of any significance. 7X has Async USB, headphone jack and a few other things, also just a bit lower in cost than the 07 was. ...I hadn't seen that p...

Re: DAC?

I'd probably have already gotten the CJ DAC.... if it only did Async USB. On one hand, I've pretty much settled on 96k as current high-rez of choice, but, I have a lot of 192k stuff that was acquired early on during my digital audio testing phase :) And Async USB works soooo sooo well. If only CJ wo...

DAC?

Curious to hear others experience with DACs in use, of course the CJ DAC and others. I've been going around in circles for weeks considering updating from my now long-in-the-tooth W4S DAC-2 It's been a great device in all ways and it convinced me that pure digital via a music server was a viable met...

Re: Do you like to watch 3D movies?

I find it very distracting , adds nothing good and is merely an effect . I recently saw the Hobbit in 3D and I don't know if I liked the movie or not due the distraction of the 3D effect. It does not look real at all. By the way I cannot find the Vote button . I have not seen The Hobbit, but there ...

Re: House of Cards (on Netflix)

We got about 2 feet of snow overnight! I got lucky as one of my neighbor's friends came over with his plow truck to clear his driveway, and I guess he saw us shoveling and came over to do ours. I thought that was really nice. We have a pretty long driveway so it saved me a couple of hours of shovel...

Re: Hello from Canada

Welcome!

I've always like Martin Logan Speakers, It was probably more to do with chance than anything that got me going along the Apogee then Magnepan trail. I always felt that if Magnepan were no more, I'd own ML's in a second.

Re: House of Cards (on Netflix)

Cool. I will have to check his website and see what's available. I would rather get it on CD, or some other lossless format than mp3, but I'll take what I can get. :) As for future Jesse Stone movies I think it's questionable. I thought I remember reading an interview with Tom Selleck somewhere and...

Re: House of Cards (on Netflix)

The Jesse Stone series soundtrack was on CD at one point, but it's apparently long since out of "print". You can apparently get it on MP3 via Jeff Beal's web site. In any case, I've tried for about a year to get the Jesse Stone CD..no luck. Oh and I like the Jesse Stone movies also! Not su...

House of Cards (on Netflix)

Anyone having a look at the Netflix production "House of Cards"?
Jeff Beal did the theme/music, I've become a big fan of his since the music he did for the CBS/Jesse Stone movies.
I'm hoping the HOC music gets released on CD at some point.

Re: Safe ways to discharge static electricity

Good luck with the humidifier, considering the temps around lately, the RH is probably in the very low also. I drew-an-arc off the GAT power switch the other day from about a half-inch away..nice one. One of those times where I'd forgotten to discharge on a chassis first. No problems but it can sure...

Re: Not CJ, but a great story about a company not unlike CJ

While having of course known of McIntosh for many years, for whatever reason, I've never even been tempted to buy their gear, not sure why exactly. Yea I know we're a "global" community, but, it just doesn't seem right that McIntosh should be owned by a foreign company, any foreign company...

Re: Safe ways to discharge static electricity

supposedly the static sprays work for some amount of time, as when the water evaporates, some residual chemical is left behind, not unlike fabric softener in cloths...but I agree with you, the idea of spraying, even if it was only once a month, would not be desirable.

Re: Safe ways to discharge static electricity

There are some anti-static sprays one can buy, we used to use them all the time at trade shows to help alleviate the problem of zapping the gear. I always rather hated spraying anything like that around the house simply because it's yet another chemical to think about in the environment. ..but it's ...

yea I'd have rather seen some tests with more motion, test signals etc.... and personally I'm really not all that interested in 500k vs 1mbit...but they probably don't have the hardware fully baked yet anyway. Time will tell.. I guess.

Ah, here was a link I was looking for earlier...H.265 demo at CES. Can't really make much of the comparison over the internet, but, the concept is shown..and yes, H.265 and future even more complex compression schemes will be dependent on processing capability increases..whether in CPU or dedicated ...
