Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

I think the patience comes because I had it in my system initially and didn't like the sound. So my expectations aren't all positive. I have some hope, but not expectation for improvement. I will be thrilled if it adds more to the sound quality. It will be tomorrow after work that I bring it up. Tha...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

While I'm being patient :? , and while I'm not ready to post photos of my system in the gallery  , I took a picture of my LS17 in the basement while it is breaking in (it's something anyway). DVD player looping Patricia Barber on the left => LS17 => a Ghent Studios B&O ICE Module based amp...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

I bet you can't wait! The anticipation must be a killer! I'll give you credit for dedication. I have to admit that I have never been able to give my equipment proper burn in time. I just always end up hooking it up and start spinning records/cd's. I think 50 hours of burn in time should be pretty g...

Re: Is CJ closed for Easter?

Since Ed left, phone help is sparse. I got a relatively quick reply by email a few weeks ago.

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

139 hours and counting. Tonight (at 150 hours) I will put in the Matsushita/National tubes and run for 50 more hours and then bring upstairs. So looking like next weekend for play time :)

Re: Hello from Missouri

Welcome Nathan! I have GAS also :). Sounds like you are a serious hobbiest! I've been into audio since my teens (40+ years ago) but just ventured into speaker restoration with a pair of AR2ax's. They came out great - I am quite pleased and proud, particularly since I like them better than anything I...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

My well-broken-in 17LS with stock EH 6922's needs 15-30 minutes after turn-on to begin to get up to sonic speed. It sounds even better after about an hour of "on" time. If it has been off for any number of days (as yours may have been prior to your acquisition of it), my experience is tha...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

I'm running a fairly similar setup to yours -- a Premier 17LS2 into an MV60. Replacing the EH 6922 with the Genalex Gold Lion 6922 was a significant improvement, with richer bass and without the midrange hardness that you describe. I could live with the GLs. I have tried some Telefunken 7DJ8, and t...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

I agree that it should be plugged into something (amp), but the amp or speakers don't really need to be running. If you have something else that your trying to burn in, then it's a good time to do it, but you don't actually have to have the entire setup on. Not much downside having the entire syste...

Re: Tube Amp on without speakers connected?

Interesting setup, I have never heard anybody do this before. Any chance you can post a picture, I would just like to see how you have the entire thing hooked up. Sounds cool! :) Thanks and sure, I'll post photos once I bring the 17LS back up stairs in a couple of weeks (running 12 hours/day or so)...

Re: Breaking in a Premier 17LS

I hope the speakers aren't connected to the '17! :) Well, I tried, but I couldn't find the speaker terminals! :? Seriously now, you need merely to plug the '17's audio output into a poweramp or some sort of normal audio input. The poweramp need not be turned on. Well! I didn't know. I have the 17LS...

Breaking in a Premier 17LS

I have some hearing sensitivities that make my preferences atypical. Sometimes, what should be great improvements end up feeling irritating to me. For example, I've not successfully moved to the Pr17LS I recently acquired. While I can perceive some improvement in staging, it sounds thinner and sligh...

Re: Tube Amp on without speakers connected?

I am going to add something that may or not be popular with this thinking. First of all, I would not run an amp without a load because it was designed to have one when operating unless you are repairing it or taking measurements. I know a of people put CD in constant play to get to the magical numb...

Re: The six-channel MET1

I thought it was a question of using the MET or a pre/pro, not both.

Re: The six-channel MET1

I have output from my DAC both to the CJ pre and my Onkyo pre/pro. When I'm listening to two channel, I play stereo through the pre and let the pre/pro output to the subs. Added benefit is separate volume controls for the mains and sub. Two remotes unless you use a universal (I have an Harmony).

Re: The six-channel MET1

uggh-did not realize that- i do need the 7.1 preamp- what suggestions would you make for a processor for movies- again 2 channel is separate handled by the Ayon CD_5- thanks so much for the advice- also what about using the oppo as a processor and just run the ATC active speakers directly to the op...

Interesting. No effect on the sound when you leave them on? I would think it would increase the load.

Re: Tube Amp on without speakers connected?

I think I'm going to go with not warming up the amp. The alternatives are to use the tube amp for everything replacing tubes more often (and possibly shortening the life of the amp), to run with a second set of speakers or to do a lot of manual connection/disconnection. CJ support (anonymously by em...

Tube Amp on without speakers connected?

Hi All, I'm trying to set up a configuration where I have a two channel tube system integrated with my home theater system. Without getting into all of the complexity, basically I'm having a Pr17LS pre into a Pr11A amp for two channel. I have an Onkyo pre/pro into Class D solid state amps. I want to...
