Re: Fuses...The FINAL Frontier
Ya, what Ian said.. on a different note I'm saving all my toilet paper rolls to use as cable risers, maybe I'll wrapem in alumfoil I'm looking for improved 'bottom end'. just kidding. If it works and you hear it use it and stay happy! ....and empty Charmin rolls sound best! and if you leave e...

Re: Classic SE upgrade w/Teflon caps
You have your opinion and I have mine and I am not going waste my time trying to convince you otherwise. One more thing I could careless about double blind testing and measurements. I have one criterion about equipment - does it make recorded music sound better to me, which is all that counts. We a...

Re: CJ Premier 2 blew up
The MPSU transistors have been out of production for a very long time. Any that are available will be NOS - Nicely Oxidised Stock or reject stock that has been put aside for a reason! I have recently substituted brand new MPSW42 and MPSW92 for the 10s and 60s in my Premier Eights. They worked fine....

Re: Fuses...The FINAL Frontier
I'd buy into something like "high-quality" fuses... couldn't hurt, not all that expensive...and yea with a big buck high quality system, why not have high quality throughout...and I've bought high-quality fuses before. no help mind you beyond my initial imagination. ...I though have a limi...

Re: Fuses...The FINAL Frontier
so is there any kind of explanation for how these things work? (the quantum chips)
I'm assuming they are purely Placebo in nature, (and I'm not meaning to discount the Placebo effect) or, is there some technological explanation for what they do? 'just curious.

Re: PV-15
Just out of curiosity, Since I've never used "Home Theater Bypass"... If I connect a device to the Home Theater preamp Input, and select Home theater on the preamp, the preamp's volume control is bypassed, right? Assuming then that the up-stream home theater electronics has it's own volume...

Re: Premier 18 Vs ET3
I've personally NOT compared directly the Prem 18 wiht ET3. I have owned an ET3 and other "modern era" CJ preamps. Hopefully others can chime in with better information. In general though, the modern CJ Preamps, with FET output drivers, and a single 6922 (ET3, ET5 and I think now the Class...

Re: In which order do you turn on/off your equipment?
If you have absolute bullet-proof muting in each piece of gear, then in the end it probably doesn't make any difference. ...but, I've seen (and own now by the way) gear that has muting, which doesn't mute 100% reliably. ...thus power amps on last, off first is safe way to go. I had a home-made pream...

Re: New Interconnects....couldn't help myself...
yea those WBTs are nuts, and those are the cheapo WBTs! The DH Labs are quite a bit less $$ and seem every bit as high in quality. I'm not sure the Locking RCAs really buy you anything, but, they are at least high quality and look nice. As far as sound goes.... the most expensive interconnects I've ...

New Interconnects....couldn't help myself...
Had a bit of free time last week, idle hands and all, it hit me I needed to build a couple custom-length interconnect pairs. Ordered 10' of DH Labs Pro Studio cable. (Shielded, dual conductor, teflon, around $11 a foot) I had a 4 WBT O144 Locking RCA's laying around from a couple years ago. way too ...

Re: Music Player/Servers
Doesn't seem like there are many (any?) music player/server builders around here (..we fit under the same catagory as computer nerds international, you know who you are :) I'm a card-carrying member) As luck would have it, I got an opportunity to whip up another music player. Always wanting to use-t...

Re: 'my turn for a CJ Preamp "logic problem"
Update: Spoke with CJ Service, once again a pleasant experience. Instead of "We've never had anyone ever report such an issue", I was told that in fact over the years they have heard of and seen a few instances. Literally being so few and far between as virtually impossible to troubleshoot...

Fantastic Job! :!: Thanks to Jeffreybehr for being a mastermind of this operation. Thanks to Mr. Jameson for for giving me courage and steady hand while holding soldering iron over $7500 piece of electronics. Re: 'my turn for a CJ Preamp "logic problem"
If I could scare up a schematic...it would sure help with troubleshooting at component level.
in the meantime I may ask CJ if they'll "loan" me a control board to try.

Re: 'my turn for a CJ Preamp "logic problem"
Oh yea, I removed the top, actually removed the board itself and had a look. it doesn't appear to be a mechanical intermittent, but then again a cold solder joint would classify as such. purely a cosmetic issue it appears. the LED actually does illuminate for just a brief second when standby is sele...

'my turn for a CJ Preamp "logic problem"
I guess it's my turn to be in the barrel.... All of a sudden, the "Standby" LED on my preamp is intermittent. (GAT) The preamp goes into Standby fine, and normally this is confirmed by the illumination of the "Standby" LED. Functionally, everything appears normal, it is going int...
Re: New ET-3
Ray, I'm no authority on c-j, but in the pic of the ET3 you have there, what is that large white cylinder directly behind the display and in front of the tube? When I opened my ET3 up to replace the tube, it was loose in my unit. Someone had forgotten to zip tie it down and mine was moving back n' ...
