Re: Music Player/Servers

The part that skews the cost on these things is the darned case. not that motherboard/CPUs/RAM etc are cheap, but they are known quantities..in the past I've used Atom based MBs. Only issue is that the graphics are not as smooth. (Of course if using for Video than Atom might not be the right choice)...

Re: New Interconnects....couldn't help myself...

I recently changed out my power amps, and, as luck would have it, my custom length RCAs used with the JC-1s, were not long enough for the ARTs. ..I guess this is a downside of building custom length cables that are -just the right length. :D I used my same basic design.. DH Labs ProStudio cable with...

Re: Keeping warm this winter

Ray, Just because you are paranoid does not mean no one is out to get you. :D No paranoia tonight... Holy crap, things are magical this evening, Notting Hillbillies, Vara Tones, Norah Jones, The Civil Wars, all recordings I've heard dozens of time. Dozens of tines, but for the first time tonight. I...

Re: Keeping warm this winter

The amps have been running virtually all day today, up over 30 hours in total running time now. I though last night noticing a trace of hardness and "2D" creeping in. This historically was what I went through for months breaking in the GAT and JC-1s. The back and forth was murder. Just had...

Re: Keeping warm this winter

Thanks everyone! I am very much enjoying them, and at the sane time a bit apprehensive about what to expect during break-in. I never really accepted break-in of components as a real thing until recently. I am slowly coming around I guess and at least on some level have accepted it, The AMPs sounded ...

Re: Keeping warm this winter

Actually, having had them running a few hours last evening, the issue will be heat-in-the-summer. The JC 1s could be switched to low bias which while still hot, helped a lot. The pair of these draw near 7 amps... Do the math, 7amps converted to heat. :) They do sound dramatically different than the ...

Re: Keeping warm this winter

It'll be interesting for me next summer.... My JC 1s in low bias drew around 2.8 amps @ idle and nearly twice that in high bias. I ran them in low bias 99% of the time, they got brutally hot in high bias. The ARTs look like they draw around 3.8 amps @ idle, so when compared to JC1 in high bias, the ...

Re: Where do you buy your tubes? From Conrad Johnson or ....

I've bee using tubestore and tubedepot.. Obtw I have settled on Gold Lions for GAT.
...too much trouble finding Finding reliable NOS tubes.

Looks like KT 120s are around $45 each. No too bad. Not sure how much CJ KT 120s would cost.

Re: CJ GAT and ART monos are simply stunning ....

After 20 plus years of mixing tube preamps with SS amps... Never of the same manufacturer, I'm about to fix both issues.
In a couple weeks I will own preamp (GAT) and Amps (ART monos)

The GAT / JC 1 combo is wonderful, but it's time for a change.

Re: Any conrad-johnson ART Amplifier owners here? ...

It's a forgone conclusion... :) Today, or more likely first thing next week I'll be in-the-queue.

This will be the first time in history I've owned a preamp and power amp(s) from the same manufacturer. go figure.

Re: KT-150 a drop in replacement for KT-120's?

I like the look of that tube! I hereby nickname it The Buck Rodgers Tube ! That's it! I know the shape of that tube, both from Buck Rogers in the 25 Century (Erin Gray :D ) and I swear in the old (original) Battlestar Galactica, (Lorne Greene) there was a robot boss of Boltar that had the sam...

Re: Any conrad-johnson ART Amplifier owners here? ...

even if I were to cough up the $30k plus for a pair of ARTs, ...replacing 16 each output tubes on a regular basis @ upwards of $100 each...would sure be an "ouch" Anyone know how long a set of KT120s last in an ART..? assuming of course the amp is used reasonably.

Re: Any conrad-johnson ART Amplifier owners here? ...

Thanks for the link Jeff. That's where I got the photo from in my first post. I miss my GAT preamp and am thinking about replacing it. Do you know if Conrad Johnson would modify the DNA-750 with premium parts? I'd love to find out how the MF2550SE sound compares. still miss the GAT huh Joe? :D :D :...

Hey Joe! :) I've been wondering the same thing... it'll be hard to believe this new amp will out-do a 350 sound quality wise, but I guess we'll find out in due time. PS way off subject, do you still use the EMM Dac2X? I'm beginning to look at DSD capable DACs and needless to say that one pops up. So...

This discussion has raged on for 20 plus years, but who's counting. One might think us audiophiles would rather listen to music, but one would be wrong. If you think you can here a difference between ______________ (fill in the blank with fuses, wire, capacitors, resistors or whatever you want) ..go...

Re: cj pv2 transformer running hot

I see we have a schematic here on the site, that should help. Is the PV2 dramatically different than the 2A? Quick glance at the schematic shows pretty straight forward design. Seems like it would be a fun re-build project. If the thing sounds nice, no hum, noise/buzz, it might just be normal for th...
