Re: The six-channel MET1
No swapping yet...funny you should that pic of the plexy completely stripped...i was a bit shocked to see the manual mentioning only to remove ONE layer. Then you can "barely" get to them--and its a pretty intricate procedure to extradite them straight up. I would think i could take all 3...

Re: The six-channel MET1
Wow...a double fuse failure...one for the MET1 and one for the amp. The amp was just badly distorting a channel but Steve McCormack himself said it's 90% one of the two fuses per channel that's causing it(he's got to be the nicest guy in the industry). Anyway, all is good now...save for an abnormal...

Re: The six-channel MET1
Thanks Anthony. Curious to see what Jeffrey thinks as i think he has a pretty intimate knowledge of the MET internals :) One more thing I've seen listed somewhere but can't readily find: does anyone know which tube corresponds to which channel? For instance, the rushing noise was center channel onl...

Re: How To Identify A Classic Preamp VS A Classic SE? Trying To Make Sure I Wasn't Scammed
Regarding the tubes used... There are substitutes for the M8080. Some website says these CV4058 6100 EC90 6C4 - but I don't know for sure. ... Anthony AFAIK, the initial model of the tube is the American 6C4, of which the 6100 and 6135 are heavy-duty versions. I've found a few 6C4s* and 6135s* that...

Re: The six-channel MET1
Hey all...I posted an inquiry here about 4 years ago and I just ran across one of these for about $1500 and thinking of getting it. I have used the MAP1 since that post so I would definitely miss it's operation (and ARM circuit!). I also realize I could do an "SMC audio" upgrade on my MAP...

Re: CJ 17Ls modifications
Hi Jeffrey I have finally opened up the CJ to see what I can do to it to modify it and I find what looks like a Cap that has been disconnected, it looks like the last cap in the series, what do you make of that? I think I am going to replace the caps with holland super caps, a bit of a tight fit bu...

Hi J Thanks for all the great info, I am new to this forum and don't know how to find (or where) the schematic is located, Here... http://www.conradjohnsonowners.com/viewforum.php?f=17 I am not sure how to figure out the values for part one, if you could help with that it would be great, OK; not a ...

Re: CJ 17Ls modifications
th, I've sent the schematic to Admin who has posted it. After reviewing my copy of the diagram, and understand that I've never heard one of these nor even seen one, here are my thoughts: 1. Signal-coupling caps, per channel, are a pair of 2uF caps in parallel (= 4uF) with no other bypass. I suspect...

Re: CJ 17Ls modifications
I've requested a schematic diagram of the '17 and will post as soon as it arrives. The '17 is a member of the 'propylene-and-'styrene-caps generation of circuitry, so replacing the coupling and final-powersupply-bypass caps with Teflon-film parts such as Sonic Craft's Platinums would be a definite u...

Have you contacted c-j?Gregory Earl wrote:OK. Now the switch is out for good. I can't turn off the unit other than unplugging it. I'm betting this is a 500 dollar fix including shipping if I send it to Virgina.
FWIW, I have a pair of c-j-manufactured McCormack DNA-750 poweramps with switches fried closed.

Re: PV-14L: Tubes and Tweaks
My MET1 uses a half-dozen M8080s. After I bought it many years ago, I tried MANY brands of 6C4s, but I tossed almost all because they were very microfonic. The Mullard M8080/CV4058 is a MUCH-better-sounding tube--typical-Mullard slightly warmish MR and excellent bass and treble. I didn't find many '...

Re: PV10 to PV10A output stage convertion
Roberto, your goal is valid--almost all home-amplification systems have too much gain and hence too much overload and noise. C-j writes that the line section of the '10 has 31.5dB of Voltage gain; http://www.conradjohnson.com/It_just_sounds_right/a-PV10.html Concentrate on V4, as V5 is wired as a ou...

Club meeting in Phoenix this week featuring the Classic 60 SE poweramp
Couldn't find a better place for this, so in Amplifiers it is. The Arizona Audio Video Club will feature a new c-j Classic 60 SE poweramp* and my much-improved MET1, 6-channel, tubed preamp at its regular monthly meeting on January 27th, 7PM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Phoenix. Source equipment w...

You're a wise man. I've had an MET1 for years and have upgraded some caps; it still sounds great. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k220/jeffreybehr/C-j%20equipment/Inrackclose_800w-1.jpg I found my MET150 used, after posting an ad like yours, and it too still sounds great. http://i89.photobucket.co...

I am a little confused by your thread title. Did you buy one and now are looking to sell it, or did you buy one and now want to buy another? Is this a "for sale" thread or a "want to buy" thread? Well, Billy, I too am confused...by my own post. I have purchased, and still have a...
