Re: Hi from Chicago

It sounds like the Jaws disc is getting something called "Laser Rot". It happens to many discs, and often arises from improper manufacturing of the disk. It will develop over time and can cause discoloration of the disc itself (but not always). This was a common phenomena of many American manufactur...

Re: The six-channel MET1

jeffreybehr, Awesome machine, congrats. Also, great review. The MET1 is such a beautiful piece of audio hardware. I think the design manages to hold that classic CJ look yet add some "pizazz" by having the tubes mounted in the front and exposed. You also did some great upgrades to this already great...

Re: CJ Evolution 2000 Amplifier Review

It would be really great to do some further mods on this. It's actually modded to accept standard power cords vs the stock attached cord. It take 5751 tubes (x4) in the input stage. I have gotten countless hours of listening enjoyment from these and really like it. I wouldn't mind trying some furthe...

Re: Hello!

Welcome ll21! Thanks for the promising words. CJO has only been online for a week now but it's definitely growing. That's of course thanks to generous individuals such as yourself who are contributing to the site. Seems like you have some good experience with quite a few of the CJ models. You may wa...

Re: hello from New York

Neal, Welcome to CJO! I think your comments exemplify why CJ has such a strong and loyal following. There products last a very long time (unlike most modern electronics). I think any company will discontinue and bring out new products with time but I have found the support for older gear to be excel...

Re: Hi from Chicago

Well, it sounds like you have really good hardware so most likely it's just a limitation of the format. I still enjoy them myself. My expectations from LD are very different than Blu-ray. I think if you compare the technical merits of blu-ray and LD anybody is going to be disappointed with LD (it's ...

Re: What have you been watching?

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) on Blu-ray. It was actually a lot of fun and the sound and visual quality was top notch. Definitely recommend a viewing if you have not seen it yet.

Re: Hi from Chicago

I'm a huge laserdisc fan! I have about 800 movies and I regularly watch about 2 a week. You mention that the laserdiscs look "terrible". Do you mean they are not as good as Blu-ray (obviously they can't compete with that) or do you think that perhaps the setup is not idea. Having a good scaler is cr...

Re: Hi from Chicago

Very nice. Clearly the CJ is my favorite, but the entire theater looks great! I see that your using a 2.35:1 projector screen. Are you using an external lens for the projector to get the non-16:9 ration? Also, I think I spot an Onkyo receiver in the upper right? If so which model? I use their TX-sr8...

Conrad Johnson PV-12 Preamp

Conrad Johnson PV 12 Preamp This little gem was released in the 90's and I still use it in my system. It comes in two versions, with and without the phone stage. The two versions are identical from the outside other than the back nameplate having PV-12 designation with an additional "L". Mine actua...

What have you been listening to?

Jon and Vangelis - Best of Jon and Vangelis I have this on both CD and vinyl. I was spinning this on my turntable the other day. It's a great albums. I think "The Friends of Mr. Cairo" is one of the most innovative songs ever released in music history. If your not familiar with this collaboration I...

Re: Hi from Israel

Hi Ron, Welcome to CJO from the other side of the world! So, is high end audio big in Israel? Do they have dealers there that sell CJ? I think Sonus Faber makes some of the worlds most beautiful speakers. There not only great sounding but also works of art. They're a little bit out of my price range...

Re: Hi from Chicago

Rob, welcome! Ah, another fellow Martin Logan owner. I don't know what it is but a significant portion of us CJ owners use Martin Logan speakers. I guess they just naturally complement each other. I also see that you are a fellow "projectionist." I myself use a Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8700UB Pro...

Hey there. Yup, I have a name, it's Gabor (Hungarian). I'm using the username admin so that if somebody has a problem with the site I'm easy to find. I am also a heavy movie watcher as well. I watch a few blu-rays per week (mostly netflix), and I also have a hobby of collecting laserdiscs so I usual...

Cool. So A recent addition to the cult of Conrad Johnson. I am actually familiar with Spearit Sound in Mass. I live in southern New Hampshire and my nearest high end audio store is Fidelis. They are a CJ dealer and they often work with Spearit Sound in Mass. Very nice choice. Post some pictures of y...

Welcome from Airzona! Wow, sound like you have many years of experience. I'm sure your new system that you spent 5 years building is great. Maybe you can post some pictures of it in the "member systems gallery" section. So when you say your more into multi-channel sound. Are you referring to things ...

I found this site with a listing of CJ schematics. It's not all the models but a fair number. If your having an issue with your device or just interested in the schematics it's probably worth a look: http://www.analogstereo.com/conrad_john ... anuals.htm

Re: What have you been watching?

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island on Blu-ray. Pretty bad movie. Definitely a rental and not a buy. Some of it was ok but then there were some really crazy moments like the bee flying sequences which just kind of ruined the thing.
