Re: EV1 Phono changing dip switches

That is actually my dilemma. I would like to switch between a few cartridges, even a dedicated cartridge for 78 RPM records (as I have some I want to archive). The Dynavector I'd like to use for certain types of recordings (it's a lower-output moving coil), and the Nagaoka for others. My 78 RPM cart...

Re: CAV 50 capacitors upgrade

It looks like the link you provided above is not actually "WD40" but simply the company that makes "WD40" and this is their contact cleaner. Yep, that's it. WD40 has gone beyond their original W ater D isplacement product and has a whole line of chemicals now. I was using their ...

Re: EV1 Phono changing dip switches

I have a love/hate relationship with the EV1. My biggest issue is that it has too much gain for MM carts and overloads the PV14's input. (If I want to listen quietly, I can't turn it down low enough and/or there are large steps in volume control adjustments.) I somewhat cured that with proper attenu...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

It's true. We had our Gilded Age during the final quarter of the 19th Century when the ultra-rich of the time built the American equivalent of castles and mansions along the Hudson Valley, Providence/Newport RI and in California but at this point they're primarily museums. No one lives there anymor...

Re: Air Lens available

This NUC isn't that old, and they have current generations available as well. I built it later in the Win10 era. And it worked great on Win11 up until recently. I'm almost wondering if some OS or driver upgrade or bug fix caused this--highly possible. I think the 23H2 upgrade is coming a month from ...

Re: Air Lens available

The NUC has WiFi and Bluetooth if I'm not mistaken, but I use neither one. On my main computer, I actually deactivated the on-board Ethernet and video in the BIOS, so they are completely out of the loop. I don't even think I've been into the BIOS on the NUC--it has worked fine up until a few months ...

Re: Air Lens available

The system interrupts issue came up on this computer only over the past few months. But my main/work computer had long ongoing issues with it which I temporarily solved by disabling the virtual Ethernet switches (for Hyper-V). I don't have Hyper-V on the Intel NUC that is running Roon Server, but th...

Re: Air Lens available

So far I've only listened to files from my NAS, but Qobuz is in the mix as well. I may have a few minutes this afternoon to give it a listen but otherwise, I'll be able to give it a true workout during the coming week. I almost went a slightly different route by purchasing a Denafrips Hermes, as it ...

Re: Air Lens available

Must still be hot. The UPS man was generous today. 😁 PXL_20230909_211944773-01.jpeg I'm only listening at low volume given the time of day, but even at this volume it does sound different from my previous setup (essentially a computer via USB). I need to wait a couple of days before I can really giv...

Re: New version of RC-20 available

I think the viable alternative is to get a programable remote. You can get a pretty nice one for $100. The RC-10 does look and feel pretty cheap. I have both the RC-10 and RC-20 and the 10 is not a show piece. :) I remember when I bought my PV-14L (used), and saw this chunk of plastic fall out of t...

Re: New version of RC-20 available

As much as I like the look of this remote (my preamp uses the plastic RC-10--I'd love to replace it), I'm not seeing $350 (or even $100) of materials in this. It's also an odd remote in that it doesn't have a power on or off button, yet if I press the volume buttons the wrong way, I've had the pream...

Re: New member

I just saw this thread today. For power output, I didn't think my Premier 11 would get loud enough with my speakers. But since htey have a built-in bass section powered by a class D amplifier built in, I found the system plays louder than I can handle these days and at my normal listening levels, he...

Re: RCA Interconnects

When I actually started experimenting with different interconnects, I was amazed. I've been a believer since then. I remember about a decade ago when I started upgrading my components to what I have now. For decades I always used the free interconnects that came with some of the components I bought...

Re: Tube dampers

Just revisiting this thread, I'm betting ARC was using an inappropriate o-ring material for the tubes. In other words, temperature limits for the material they used were too close to the hottest temperature range of the tube. The rust (red/orange) silicone o-rings used by C-J and others are commodit...

Re: putting 2 outlets in extern.junction box:jumpers or twisting the wires?

Sorry I'm late (as always), but I could see having an electrician change the single-gang box to a two-gang, and installing another outlet alongside it. In fact, I may do that if we decide to stay in this house and I run a dedicated line from the breaker box (if it has an available space for a breake...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

Lovely, look at the sky in the last picture! The Colorado Springs area has had some interesting weather as of late--one of the guys at the front desk of the cozy motel we stay at in Manitou Springs mentioned that it has been unusually rainy this year. Not so much in duration but for its frequency, ...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

That is the only (slight) regret I would have about moving--both of the kiddos live in this area. My youngest would probably move out to live nearby (as she's also fond of the places we're thinking of relocating to). One of them being the Colorado Springs area, where I was at just two days ago. To l...

Re: RCA Interconnects

I've been using Cardas Cross between amp and preamp, and preamp and DAC. But I also like how the Morrow Audio cables sound on the phono side of things, and might eventually switch the system over to those. It's reported that they need break-in time, but I'm not really sold on how much difference tha...

Re: The Decrapifier by Schiit Audio

A Premier 140 turned up on the TMR site a few days ago. Good price also. But I'm on a spending diet for a while, at least for big ticket items like this. And I have other priorities, along with road trips that were planned many months ago. It's no Decrapifier, but I am looking towards a Denafrips IR...
