Re: Premier 11 to Premier 11 XS
Yes, this can be done. Have done so in the past but this is going way back to 95/98. Ed D (chief tech at CJ) did two XS versions for us at the factory. It was changing a few resistors and other internal wiring. The total power output drops to half, around 35w and the XS version is fitted with EL34's...

Re: Premier 14 - with ARC amp
It was some fancy looking adapter cables, one end SE with the other end XLR. From the first note onwards I said no thanks. Can't even remember the make... goes to show i wasn't interested at all. Anyway we listened for a while because the ARC dealer who brought over his Ref160M's was more keen to li...

Nice Paolo mate!
Keep those tunes at their finest level... good combination CJ and Mac. When it gets right with the right type of speakers, it's a fine tune!

Re: Premier 14 - with ARC amp
I've already replied to your other post HB, on my thoughts and experience using adapters. In my particular set-up, which is highly transparent to the core, the adapters had flaws, and these were the ARC Ref160M's. Fairly top of the line ARC monoblocks using KT150 topology. With adapters it was passa...

Re: Audio Research CJ synergy
G'day mate, greetings from down unda. The Prem14 is a fantastic preamp, and it will do a fine job partnered with virtually any top end power amplifiers, such as ARC so no issues there. My only concern is the use of adapter plugs to accommodate XLR connections with the REF75SE. Earlier this year I tr...

Re: GL KT88's?
Yes, that's about right. Agree with Joe on those differences between these two types. Also just to add, the most noticeable difference to me was the midrange. The KT88's sounded more open and rich, especially on vocals, sounded more profound. The 6550C are great tubes, with a nice lush midrange and ...

Re: CJ Supplied tubes (Stock)
Ah, ok that's good to know. As I said this is going quite a while back... so was recommended by LJ at the time. If those makes that you've tried seem to work well then just leave it in there. Don't go changing too often though, even if there's an improvement or not, sometimes in the long run it can ...

Re: CJ Supplied tubes (Stock)
When I took delivery of the ET5, just after the ACT2 series 1, it came fitted with one Genalex Gold Lion 6922. That was recommended by JF himself and it came shipped with the unit along with one spare. Thought that was a nice touch from CJ. Re. To Prem12's, this is going quite a while back .. as far...

Re: ART phono stage compared to TEA1 series 3
Nice one Bill, well done on the ART gear! I remember your previous gear and the fact that you don't care for panel type speakers! Ha, that's how I remember, and you're still using the Sony AR2's. Excellent! As you've gradually upgraded to CJ's finest fron the ET5 and now upto the ART series gear, yo...

Re: Hello from Oakland
ART150, pristine level of performance; SOTA amplification at its finest! Well done, and a major step from CJ's MF series of SS amplifiers. As I mentioned to you before, the very best CJ did with their SS gear was the MF2550SE. This particular one replaced the mighty Premier 350, although the Prem350...

Re: Aus Hifi Show, tunes down unda
G'day maties, hope all is well at your end of the woods. Just a quick update, thought I'd mention it for those using Wilson's. So, referring to the Wilson demo room that had some very lofty gear but the sound was distorting... apparently it was the digital set-up. The matched cables should have been...

Re: Preamp (opposition) pairing with Prem 350
Ah, that's an excellent combination of ARC pre-power. Well done on the auction mate. Yes, it will be an interesting comparison no doubt. However, I wouldn't say one's better than the other... rather it's the combination that suits you the most. Your listening habits, music preferences, system gear &...

Re: Classic 62SE On The Way
Yes that'll work for now. Plus with the Accuphase you'll manage to save up without going for a mediocre preamp. Once something tops come along then you'll be ready. When you do finally get that perfect pre- power match, and it controls your 62se supremely well then you'll understand what I mean by &...

Re: Classic 62SE On The Way
Yes mate, it was Wells Audio as well as other gear, such as the Backert and Vincent. Since these preamps all use tubes in one form or the other, it was an alternative choice of preamp to consider. Only when I heard them set up with my Quads, did I realise there's just no comparison with CJ. That's a...

Oh, i didn't know that Admin. Glad you brought it up because one thing for sure is, you really don't need to blast the roof off in order to enjoy those fine tunes. I simply cannot understand why some people listen to music so loud! They claim that they must experience the lifelike presence and full ...

Re: Preamp (opposition) pairing with Prem 350
Oh yes, that's certainly been a very debatable topic; preamp or no preamp. In fact, the best preamp is No preamp! If you can get away with it. Going direct from source Output directly into power amp, that's the purest source signal you're ever going to get. As a matter of speaking, that's exactly wh...

Re: Premier 12 Cover Modification
Haaaa! Nice one WC! Oh, sorry to hear about your hearing issues... at least with CJ gear, those tunes are fine even at low levels. That's why the majority of my listening sessions are way past 10pm into the wee hours of the morning. Dead silent and I can hear every detail on quality recordings. Chee...

Re: Classic 62SE On The Way
Yes, correct! Very valid point.
I sincerely believe if having settled on a Classic 62se, then the preamp must be on the same level or higher. Otherwise it's a half baked cake. Just my 50cts worth and in my experience having owned a vast variety of CJ pre - power systems.
Cheers, RJ
