Re: Is CJ still in business?

For me I'm still with the CJ Premier 12s. I don't have the fun money to play with other amps at this point. I'm happy with what I have so I'm not even in the market for anything. Unless it's something like a phono cartridge, I tend to buy almost everything used. Plus, the way my tinnitus is more ea...

Re: Roon

👍👍 I've tried a couple of others in the past couple of months but went right back to Roon. It fits the way I play music. I just started using the "tag" feature. I've been working on the CTI Records catalog and tagged all of those in my library with a "CTI/Kudu" tag so I can see a...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

Heading to the US would be a great trip down memory lane, especially for me. Chicago was my home for 8yrs. Certainly been a while since I left in 98. Chicago has probably changed somewhat over the past 25 years, although downtown is still mostly unchanged except for some newer structures here and t...

Re: Is CJ still in business?

Honestly if I didn't already have C-J in my system and I were shopping for a system, Pass Labs would be my first stop. I generally buy used, though, so it would have to be an older Pass Labs piece. I've read some of his writings and he seems like a genius of solid state electronics--he knows the ele...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

That dense fog can be tense to drive in--I've been in a few situations at night where I had almost considered stopping overnight at a hotel.

We drove part of the Blue Ridge Parkway around Asheville last year around Memorial Day weekend.

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

Joe, you might be better at the bottom of canyons, vs. the tops of mountains or looking down into canyons. 😁 Strange, though. I drove up Pike's Peak with my youngest back in 2017--part of the road is paved, yet I was a nervous wreck the entire way up, hugging the center of the road. Yet we've taken ...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

Gorgeous. Those rock formations are amazing. Nature is truly beautiful. It's amazing how you go to different places in the world and it is not just the climate that changes, but even how rocks look. I can think of a lot of national parks with varied types of rock. Glacier (Montana) and Rocky Mounta...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

I have to say, that photo of Japan reminds me of a section of Meijer Gardens (located on the other side of the state from me), where it is landscaped as a Japanese garden with a pond--they did a good job bringing that look to their exhibit. I leave on a road trip (not a rally, for once) in a week an...

Re: Does anyone still buy Laserdiscs?

I might toddle over there this afternoon--the opening mornings of these sales are usually crowded with a wait to get into the house. I bet any of the classic car guys out there will probably buy up all of those R12 canisters. If those were sold at street prices, they'd be worth a small fortune. The ...

Re: Does anyone still buy Laserdiscs?

I have to resist the temptation to go to this estate sale not too far from the house. One thing that caught my eye immediately was this stack: too-many-ld-players.jpg The amount of stuff at this estate sale is mind-boggling. https://www.estatesales.net/MI/Clinton-Township/48036/3536076 Many items we...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

The $500 limit is for the 24 Hours of Lemons races only. Even there, the limit can be "gamed" a bit. For instance, most who race will gut the interior and some body parts--if you bought a $2,000 car and sold of $1,500 in parts, and have the receipts to prove it, that brings your net cost t...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

It's the Lemons Rally, a spinoff of the 24 Hours of Lemons endurance (?) race and the Concours d'Lemons car shows. https://24hoursoflemons.com/lemons-rally/ I'd heard of the 24 Hours of Lemons races for years, and stumbled across the rally listings when I visited the site about five years ago. One n...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

Those are great pictures. There is so much to see in the US. I really need to do some longer roadtrips domestically. That Greyhound bus station is great. I wish they would build more things with unique architectural design. Art Deco needs a comback. The Greyhound bus terminal is in Blytheville, AR,...

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

We had been exploring numerous places in the US until "the big shutdown," including some road trips with my youngest, who'd never been on long road trips before. We buy an annual pass for the national parks because of it. But we made up for the two year gap in traveling last year. My bette...

Re: Dominance of music formats over the years

Interesting chart, if a bit flawed--I don't believe the values there were adjusted for inflation. I think that would have provided a better ratio of the formats to one another in the chart. Still, to see how the formats grew and shrank in popularity is very interesting. Long live the 8-track? 🤣 For ...

I attended a presentation at an audio show by Bob Hodas, who runs a business tuning studios and listening rooms. He had some solid advice. Essentially, placing your speakers and listening in the correct places is a first step, room treatments second, and only some mild EQ if it's absolutely needed (...

Re: Cat6 or Cat7 Ethernet?

I posted in the other thread, but...properly testing for the provider's connection quality needs to be done via Ethernet, and to eliminate any issues within the house, plugging a computer straight into their gateway would be the most reliable test. Doing this via WiFi is showing us the net sum of Co...

Re: Streaming reliability and streamer updating

That much packet loss, high latency, jitter, etc., is due to using WiFi. It's also good to test WiFi, but to see what the provider is contributing, without the interference of WiFi, you would need to do the test from a computer connected via Ethernet. (I check my connection weekly by using https://s...

Re: Hello from Paris and a question

I used have Comcast for a time but ultimately cancelled them as I got tired of them increasing the prices, and then I had to call and "bargain" it down to some more reasonable amount, then repeat the process a year later (meanwhile always increasing to some degree). We switched to Consoli...
