Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?

admin, I own a Ragnarok 1.5. I moved it to my other location, but it's not that great to me. i'm been running my Cayin el84 tube amp as my workhorse 16 hours a day. so if i can find a ss amp that sounds good for a workhorse, i'd consider it, even if it exceeds my initial budget. problem is, i bet m...

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?

If you are looking for a "work horse" that does "everything", solid state, that you can just run 8 hours a day every day and not worry, and with a budget of $1500,.... take a look at: https://www.schiit.com/products/ragnarok-1 You can get the version with a built in DAC if you pl...

Re: Nuovo membro Mike PV2

Per google translate: Hello everyone, I recently inserted a Conrad Johnson Pv 2 preamp into my vintage chain consisting of Marantz CD 94 MK2, Ar Xa turntable, Finale Denon Poa 1500, Zingali Overtur 2s speakers. Strangely, the sound is a little flat in the mid range and the highs are a little harsh a...

Re: My CAV 45 S2

Oh, I've tried that. No change (to my ears at least). I keep them in as they "look cool" and easier to dust/vacuum around the cables.

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?

As others mentioned, $1300 is too much for a PV10. I think you could get a PV-12 for that price if you are looking at units from that era. PV-12's also come on the market more often in my experience. I owned one myself and it offers a lot of bang for your buck in my opinion.

Re: Another Unexpected Comparison

For $12k retail you get a 300 Wpc amp with nearly 3dB of headroom, a preamp with 17 inputs, an 8 band equalizer that can be removed from the audio path, an adjustable MM phono, an adjustable MC phono, a DAC module that can be replaced with upgrades when upgrades are developed. You can drive a secon...

Re: CJ Classic 2se preamp not good with CJ 2275SE amp?

I did a tube replacement for my PV14 last summer. Bought them from thetubestore.com and were very reasonably priced at $20 a tube.

Re: Old vs New Sound

Agree with AJ, tube designers got "better." Of course it's going to be how you define better. If you are looking for clearer, more dynamic, more accurate reproduction of music, then you will most likely like the newer offerings more than the old. If you are looking for that "old time ...

Re: My CAV 45 S2

I also use speaker cable lifters. I don't think I notice any difference in the sound but it looks nice and it's easier to dust with the cables off the ground so I've kept them in the system. Doesn't hurt to try these things in my opinion.

Re: M8080 Replacement LP260MSE Monoblocks

Glad some of the issues are solved. If the popping is changing sides with the L/R interconnects between the preamp and amp switched, it would signify a preamp issue (or source for that matter). You may just want to swap the source interconnects to be 100% sure but most likely a preamp issue. One las...

If you do get to go please give us an update. As you mentioned, prices have really gone in the last few years. Things are getting a little crazy.

PS- best wishes to your wife. Hope all goes well and she makes a quick recovery.

Re: Vacation Picture - show us where have you been

I was lucky enough to spend an entire month in Lisbon Portugal early this year. It was a wonderful experience with great sites, history, people, and food. The only down side is that I was away from the stereo!

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?

Lots of really good choices in that price range and of course there is no "right or wrong" answer. One consideration would perhaps be a CJ ET3. That's right around that price (if you find a bargain). Maybe a CA150 could be had for a little cheaper if the ET3 is out of budget. The reason I ...

Re: I took the plunge and upgraded big time!

Geez. I think I'm out of touch with the prices... Not sure why I thought the 3.7i was around $6k? I guess it does seem a lot more reasonable. It would be interesting to see a price list for the "X upgrade" for all the different models. It's also a nice way to expand the speaker line withou...

Re: ET3SE volume gain settings

Hmm... no, not the fixed gain phono stage. That's the gain from the cartridge level to the line level. I'm asking about the gain of the line stage. The volume operates on a resistor ladder. I think each "step" is like 0.7db, or something like that. There are 99 steps, I think. Unity gain ...

Re: I took the plunge and upgraded big time!

That's cool. I just saw that on their website when I did a little searching. So it looks like any of their speakers can be upgraded to their "X" spec. I wonder how many of these "X" versions are leaving the factory direct or it's 100% sending sold units in for upgrade? If upgradi...

Re: I took the plunge and upgraded big time!

Has anyone had the opportunity to audition an “X” version of a Maggie speaker. I’m curious if the upcharge is worth it. I emailed the Maggie service department and they told me upgrading a 3.7 would run $4000 not including disassembly and reassembly nor shipping. $4k seems pretty steep of a cost fo...
