Re: WTB Conrad-Johnson D/A-2b

I loved the sound of the D/A-2b, but HD-3 was better except for a bit of midrange magic that the tubes imparted. I sold to my D/A-2b to the Admin here when I got the HD-3. I have since sold the HD-3 and got the Holo Audio May KTE. It's by far the best DAC I have ever owned.

Cleaning out my basement

The equipment my like needs tubes and may need repair. I don't have time to deal with it. All pieces were bought new. 1. CJ...

Re: Dumb Question for the Day

Thanks. I was wondering if screwdrivers of this sort come with the amp? Mine is a demo from an authorized CJ dealer. No manual and no screwdriver were in the box. Thanks. The amps don't come with a screwdriver for removing the cage, but it should had a long thin plastic screwdriver that will allow ...

Re: Axpona 2014 in Chicago

I helped Joe the owner of Superior Audio System setup the room. This was the first time I heard the ET-5 and LP125sa. I wish I could afford those pieces. The sound was excellent for a hotel room with minimal room treatment. I attached some pictures I took of the room. Below are some youtube link of ...

Re: PV-3 info?

I've never seen one in person nor heard one. I don't think it was ever reviewed. If the one you are looking at was a kit it would only be as good as the capability of the person who put it together.

Re: Preamp for CJ Premier 11A

The companion preamp for a Premier 11A would have been the Premier 10. I Have an 11A and I used it with a PV12 years back that was a great combination.

At that point in time CJ had a number of line there was the Motif the high end line of solid state electronics before they made CJ solid state gear, also there was the Synthesis line of Loudspeakers. The sonograph was designed to compete with lines like B&K, PSaudio, Hafler and Amber. The equipm...

Re: Classic SE upgrade w/Teflon caps

I have been in audio clubs where people swore they could hear differences that were nothing more than a volume mismatch brought about by different gain levels between the selected components. Only double blind ABX tests with normalised levels can prove them wrong at which point they run for the hil...

Re: Classic SE upgrade w/Teflon caps

The capacitors will make no difference to the sound and the fuses even less. These are marketing cons. The differences that you hear are in your own head and mine. I admitted it and proved it insofar as speaker cables are concerned anyway here: http://ianamillar.com/blog/speaker-cable/ How could yo...

Re: PV12>PV11>Premier 2

I think the PV12 would have the edge over a Premier 2. It is eleven years younger. I owned a PV12 and it was excellent sound quality. I never heard a PV11 my parents have a PV10A and that is nowhere near as good as the PV12. I remember the premier 3 I would say the PV12 is more neutral sounding agai...

Re: Classic SE upgrade w/Teflon caps

The teflon caps go thru swings of sound good one day then hazy and foggy the next I've heard the changes minute to minute in some cases. The big swings dimmish and you put more hours on the unit then I say around the 300 hour mark the biggest changes are done in its a case of more refinement. When I...

Re: Classic SE (Teflon Capacitors) Burn-in time?

It's a pain but the burn in is worth it. I used a calendar and mark the hours each day and total the numbers at the end of the week. I would hours on and hour off this cycling is suppose to hasten the burn in I would run my MET150 4-6 hours on 1 hour off and off at night. I my room is under my bedro...

Re: What is phase inversion and what do I do about it?

I always make the phase change at the speaker terminals at the amp. This keeps you from getting confused about the phase because you tend to see the cable at the speaker end more that the amp end. a get disc for phase check is the XLO disc if it can still be found. Also some og the Sterophile test d...

Re: Classic 2 SE preamp os base version of ET 3 better sound

The Teflon caps take a long to to burn in the sound might be clean and clear one day hazy the next. My suggestion get at least 300 hours of playing music the let it settle down. I experienced this with my HD3 and my Met150. After about 250 hours that roller coaster goes away and the sound stabilizes.

My first MV50/52 in the 80s I used Spica TC50s, Magneplanar SMG, Eminent Technology LFT IV. MY Premier 11A I had a Von Schweikert VR-4 and Martin-Logan Electromotion ESL. Now I use my martin-Logans with Met-150.
