Re: Premier 11 to Premier 11 XS

I had the teflon on upgrade done on my pr11 and it is totally worth it. Better bass, more clarity and transparency and still maintains the original sound

Re: Regenerator and my CJ monoblocks

Is it right to say that RFI EMI is not the cause of ground loop issues? Still not sure why CJ mono blocks are susceptible to this issue. But their solution seems to be foolproof in remediating it.

Have you ever had the chance to hear both side by side? If so you might be surprised! Yes they were both in perfect working order with new tubes.

Re: Phono Stage Experience

I have owned both the TEA2SE HG and Pr 15v2 and the latter sounded better in every way. More resolution and detail, better sound stage, etc. Of course it’s a vintage product, so that might be a consideration.

Re: Premier 5s Inbound!

If you are using the 16 ohm output tap with ML Ascent speakers that is clearly a mistake! CJ recommends the 4 ohm tap for use with most speakers.

Re: Premier 16 LS2 replace vs restore?

Totally agree with the previous post. All the parts on a Pr16ls should last a lifetime. It would be a waste of money to replace them!

Re: Power tube replacement for Premier 11A?

I use the JJ Tesla 6550a and find them very similar to the original GE’s. It’s funny that when I bought my Pr11a in 1994 people couldn’t wait to get rid of their OEM tubes and replace them with the SED’s. While there was a difference, I couldn’t really tell which one was better. Just goes to show!

Re: First Tube Rolling Experience...Unexpected Results!

I had the same experience with the mazda 6cg7. I am not sure the are truly 6cg7/6fq7 tubes. I found the sound bloated, dull and rolled off. Try using another brand.

Re: Recap

The fact that both amps started to sound bad at roughly the same time makes it unlikely that they have a problem. It is likely that the problem resides elsewhere in your system such as ac power or in another component. It could be as simple as cleaning your cable terminals. I would suggest that you ...

Re: More Premier 11a Power Tube Questions

I am currently using JJ Tesla 6550a’s in my Premier 11a and they are as good or better than the GE or SED and are a lot cheaper. Beware of the SED’s from the last years of their production as quality dropped badly and the sound was not as good. Also I would be suspicious that a real NOS quad of TS c...

Re: CJ ET3SEHPhono Cartridge

I use an Audio-technica at33ptg (0.3mv) with my TEA2 and Pr16ls which has a similar gain structure to your preamp and I get by. If I crank the volume past 65 I start to hear tube noise. It depends on the input sensitivity of your amp and how loud you like to listen, but you will definitely be at the...

Re: Preferred Speakers for Prem 14 & Prem 11s

I run a pair of Vandersteen 3a sigs with my Premier 11s and the sound is wonderful. The Vandersteens have a balanced and coherent sound that is very musical. Plus they have level controls for the mids and tweeter that allow you to tailor the sound to your room which is a big plus.

sold! Conrad Johnson TEA2 SE HG Phono Preamp - $2500.00

I have for sale a Conrad Johnson TEA2 SE HG Phono Preamp. This is the high-gain version with Teflon capacitors. I used it successfully to handle a low output 0.3mv Audio Technica AT33PTG cartridge. The minimal zero-feedback circuit implemented with top-shelf components delivers a uniquely coherent, ...

Re: Premier 11A mods

Hi Don, I am a long time owner of a Premier 11a which I had upgraded with teflon capacitors about 5 years ago. To me, the midrange is very liquid sounding with great imaging and sound staging. It is not tubey and lush sounding the way you might expect tube gear to sound. In fact, the 6550 tube is re...

Re: Premier 16 II vs. ET 5

I once asked CJ this question, and their answer was the ET5 is better unless the 16 received the ridiculously expensive Teflon cap upgrade, then it would be comparable. I have a 16 and it is more than adequate. Some might even prefer it (I do) for its less modern sound.

Re: PV7 - MM or MC phono cartridge compatbility

Neither of these cartridges suits the pv7. For the dl103 you will need a step up transformer with at least 22db of gain (1:13 turns ratio). Denon makes a nice one (au-s1). For the dl110 the denon au-300lc should work. Otherwise stick to mm cartridges, audio technica makes some that are mc-like sound...
