Re: ACT2.2 distortion/pops?

That's the best advice by Admin. Also just to add, unless you had a local techie who's familiar with this design. The ACT2 is actually bit complicated and cumbersome to work with, since it's a dual chassis design. The sub-chasis floats on a second level, based on a suspension system of some kind, an...

Re: Question CAT SL1 Signature mk2 with CJ Premier 8A Monoblock

Based on specs, both should be a good match. However, that's only specs... can't really trust the specs, hence I use them only as guidelines. Best would be to audition if possible, otherwise there's no way of telling. Then when you bring it home and install it in your system and for some reason it d...

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2

Thanks Admin. I know you might be partial to the ET7-S2, but is there much of a difference between the ET7-S2 and the GAT-S1, or are they mostly similar in sonic signature? I've home trialed both at length, on different types of speakers. Mostly panel types though; Maggie MG20.7's, Quad ESL 2905's ...

Re: New bee to CJ

Yes mate, that's correct! In fact, I should have known that considering the long dealer network I was once part of. Our good mates in Spore are the main distributors/ importers for CJ (Norman) and they've been supplying to the Sth East Asian region ever since. So their history goes a long way back. ...

Re: New bee to CJ

G'day mate, Yes, the circuit diagram will not be issued any more. There used to be another way but I'm not sure what the arrangement is in Malaysia. Sometimes CJ may send c-diagrams to authorised dealers only. This was mainly for the purpose of tech support where the dealer had a fully certified tec...

Re: New bee to CJ

Ok mate, not to worry. ATTN: Gen There's a very clear version of the Premier 8 Owner's Manual, that can be downloaded from the CJ Website, under the vintage tab - Premier Line. Perhaps you've already got one of these downloaded versions by now... As for the circuit diagram, CJ used to pass on these ...

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2

In that case the GAT will outperform all of those preamps, from the first note onwards. Whether it's a GATS1 or GATS2, none of those preamps can match the performance level of CJ's finest. Even though the GAT has been replaced by the ART88. Just for comparison levels at a very high bar, the top of t...

Re: New bee to CJ

No worries at all mate, always happy to help. The cables and interconnects that you're using now are very good and well known in the industry. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with those brands. What picked my attention was the mention of Nordost! I'm a massive Nordost fan and exclusively use a f...

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2

Oh no chance Charlie! Between a PV10 series and the GAT, there's no comparison! That's a very unfair comparison, such that the PV10 is not even within the Premier series to begin with. If it were comparing the ACT2 or the ET7 series, that would be a more realistic line-up. The Premier series of prea...

Re: Conrad Johnson Prem 12 with Focal Sopra 2

Prem12's with Focal Sopra, no issues at all. In fact there's a close mate here who has the Sopra's with the added super tweeters mounted on top. Driven by SS amplifiers, I think they were Simaudio Moon, sounded tops! After a few visits here, he was highly taken up by CJ, so he tried out a Classic 62...

Re: New bee to CJ

Nice one mate 👍 and welcome to CJO. Those Prem8A's look fab as ever, legendary gear! I'll never forget them, the last pair I had after the XS version (fitted with EL34's) were the 8A's fitted with 6550C tubes driving Apogee Diva's partnered with the ART preamp. It was outstanding considering the des...

Re: M8080 Replacement LP260MSE Monoblocks

Admin mate, You also have these tubes in your ART monoblocks. They're used in the Input gain stage. CJ preferred to use this tube primarily as the Input gain on a few selected amplifiers and preamps but later on changed over to the 6922 variants, which is widely used in current production. I'm think...

Re: Favorite tubes for CAV45 S2

The best to me were the Mullard EL34's, which came fitted from CJ HQ. This was on version 1 then when I had the S2 version, that came fitted with Genalex Gold Lion 6922 / E88CC gold pin. Version one had the EH 6922, which was quite good but I found that the GGL's had an extra edge on overall perform...

Re: CJ Classic 2se preamp not good with CJ 2275SE amp?

Yes, the R Coda gear is very highend. There was a chap who used to post here once in awhile; LL21 Lloyd. He was previously using the CJ GATS2 with a mighty Gryphon amp to drive his Wilson's. Since recently about a year ago, he changed all pre-power to Coda preamp with monoblocks, and absolutely love...

All those tweaks

Yes, agreed on all those tweaks. I've been one fairly on the guilty side, trying all sorts of things. However, there came a point where I realised ,although such tweaks are great, there's a certain threshold that the system will reach. Once it has reached this point, that's it! Just leave it and enj...

Re: Working on my Premier 8XS Amps.

Really nice one matey 👍 That's a very intense project... I would've blown the house down by now, not very good with intricate stuff like this, hell no! Do let us know when it all comes together, those Prem8A's will always have a legendary sound, and now that you've got the XS- EL34 version, that's o...

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?

Mmm... those are some great offers! We don't get gear like that over here at all. Even if it was offered at a decent price range, by which means both parties must be satisfied... the gear just sits there for months on end! The only way to get top end gear is to buy new! Or perhaps demo/ floor stock....

Nice one WC! Yes, as Admin stated, please post some pics if possible. I know sometimes you need permission from both parties, dealers and the owners of the rig... that being said, always an issue in Spore & HK. Otherwise, I would've had an entire album! Have a good matey, and enjoy the show! Che...

Re: Old vs New Sound

Yes this is very true, in fact not pertaining only to CJ. Regarding CJ of course, their vintage gear was highly musical. Very relaxing, somewhat rolled off in HF extension and low level bass, it was the midband that captured attention. It had an enveloping affect, a sort of sound that wraps around y...

Re: Suggestions on a preamp for CJ 2275SE amp?

Definitely not! $1300 for a PV10 is way overkill! I had two versions, the last one being the PV10AL, bought for just $900 and sold for $990. Note: this is in $AUD not USD... so $900 AUD is only about $600 US! $1300 should be the price range for a used ET3 series, definitely not a pv10. Even a PV15 w...
