The PV8 is a difficult preamp to re-tube. Very few 12AU7s will work inside of it. The PV1 will be far more forgiving of the choice of tubes. Both will probably need to have their regulators rebuilt after all of these years, and the PV1 will certainly require a recapping of the power supply.

I own one of these amps. They are amazing sounding, once you roll the right match of tubes in. I own a number of other ultra-classic tube amps, and this amp remains my favorite.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't know how many previous owners this preamp had. However I suspect that it has had its volume control replaced. The supposed "12AU7s" which came in mine do not in fact appear to be 12AU7s at all so far as I can tell (despite their markings). They have the tiny...

I have this amp. I absolutely love the sound when you have the right tubes in this unit.
