Re: Successful PV7 - home repair

Yeah, it's probably over 30 yrs old. The only thing left for my little job is to re-seat the power "ON" light. It's not getting much light out the face!

Re: conrad johnson PV6 phono section pops - help

Did you get this sorted out? I would double check your cap work. I doubt a tube is responsible.

Successful PV7 - home repair

Just thought I would share a small victory. Yesterday while listening to my PV7 the left channel dropped out and the volume and balance pots had no effect. I checked my tubes and examined the board carefully for anything obviously, but saw nothing. And hooked up my back-up preamp and feared the wors...

Re: Yet another phase question

RJ, I never thought I would need a sub and actually had bad impressions of systems that employed sub woofers, so I was reluctant to take the plunge and buy one. I'm not interested in using sub's for playing videos with earth shattering explosions or stuff like that. I'm strictly an old fashioned 2-c...

Re: Yet another phase question

RJ , after a few sessions it was clear there are two settings that sounded correct. A: Sub set at 180 degrees phase, and speakers normal. B: Sub set at 0 degrees and speakers reversed. I set the sub at 55 Hz so I don't over do it. I like LP's, I'm using Denon stuff for phono. DP62L TT w/ a DL103r an...

Re: Yet another phase question

Hey, thanks for commenting. Yes, just to clarify, I am running the RCA cables from the PV7 to the sub, then to the amps and finally to the speakers. If I'm reading you responcse correct that's how I had them originally. But actually it sounds better if I set the sub to 0 inverse and then keep the sp...

Yet another phase question

I have a PV7 that phase inverts, been running it for a few years using a couple dynakit Mark 3's. I just reverse the speaker banana plugs and all is well, I've recently bought a powered sub woofer - BMW 25000. The signal goes from the PV7 to the sub and then to the mono blocks, which feed the stereo...

Re: PV7 - MM or MC phono cartridge compatbility

Just thought I would report back. The Denon DL110 (High Output Moving Coil) cartridge that I installed works wonderfully on the cj PV7. Sounds way better in every way than the standard MM carts I have used for the last 40 years. If I ever decide to make the move up to a Low Output Moving Coil cart l...

PV7 - MM or MC phono cartridge compatbility

I picked up a new (used) Denon DP62L turntable the other day and need cartridge. I'm interested in trying a Denon DL-110 or DL-103 cartridge, but not sure if the PV7 will play good with these moving coil cartridges. The DL-110 is considered a high output moving coil (HOMC) cartridge with 1.6mV outpu...

Re: Any PV7 Experts Out There?

I had to share this example of not taking anything for granted. I just noticed that I've been running the wrong set of tubes in this thing. The previous owner had three 12AU7's in place of 12AX7's, at least he had the 12AT7's in there right. Now the phono level came way up and the other sources are ...

Re: Any PV7 Experts Out There?

bluesspirit: I found the replacement Mundoff caps on the top of the board to be the same or in some cases slightly larger than those on the schematic. There are also three Mundorf caps on the underside of the board whick I couldn't read but I assume they are suitable. On the top I have the following...

Re: Any PV7 Experts Out There?

Thanks for responding. Mystery solved, turns out the tech simply soldered the remaining caps to the under side of the board. I'm good to go. My current cartridge is Audio Technica ATP-2XN, spec sheet indicates the output is 5.3mV. Not sure what that tells me but it's a start. I do notice that the re...

Any PV7 Experts Out There?

Hi, this is my first post. I picked up a PV7 last month and I really like it. It's step up from what I've has before. It drives a pair of new Dynakit Mark III's that I build last year using an updated driver board that has two 6SN7's. I do have to turn the volume up a bit when playing the phono howe...
