Re: Gain Issue
Thanks for the suggestion. I usually ground the preamp and lift the ground on everything else, but I'll give it a try anyway. I originally posted nearly a year ago, and became disillusioned about the problem. Decided to sell the preamp, and someone bought it - only to return it saying that there was...

Gain Issue
Hi Guys: I have a Classic 1 SE, ASL Hurricanes and Nola Contenders, Valhalla 2s interconnects and Shunyata Cobra cables. I'm getting significant noise out of the speakers, due to their being 90db and the ASL is a very sensitive amp, and the CJ has 25db of gain. I can barely turn the volume past 8 o'...
Re: New ET-3
A little late to this party, since I got a Classic 2 about 8 months ago, and then upgraded to a Classic SE. Well, i saw a ET-3 on Audiogon and jumped on it yesterday. It'll be here in a week. It was very spur of the moment. Except now, I have a Classic SE AND an ET-3, which I'm sure I'll upgrade to ...

Fuses...The FINAL Frontier
I've been experimenting with fuses for the past two years. Hi Fi Tuning gold, Then Hi Fi Supremes, then AMR, and now Synergistic Research fuses, the only ones with a 30-day money-back guarantee. And then putting the WA Quantum chips on them - which apparently Hi Fi Supreme has adapted to their fuse....

Re: Classic SE upgrade w/Teflon caps
I don't know how I missed this, but last night I realized that the Classic SE has a fuse tray right below the IEC inlet. (I didn't even know it HAD a fuse!) I've been finding the sound wonderful, but lacking a bit of body in the bass range thru lower midrange. Not in the same way as being "thin...

Classic SE upgrade w/Teflon caps
I posted in the wrong forum originally. Sorry, guys. Can someone comment on their experience on the burn-in time with the Teflon capacitors? I've just received my preamp back recently, and thought -- Teflon being what it is -- that the capacitors would take at least 200 hours for full burn-in. Calle...

Classic SE (Teflon Capacitors) Burn-in time?
Can someone comment on their experience on the burn-in time with the Teflon capacitors? I've just received my preamp back recently, and thought -- Teflon being what it is -- that the capacitors would take at least 200 hours for full burn-in. Called CJ, who said they burned them in 40 hours at the fa...

Re: Classic 2 SE preamp os base version of ET 3 better sound
My Classic is being upgraded to an SE version as we speak. I had asked CJ if there was any sonic superiority of the Classic 2 SE to the Classic 1 SE and they said there was no noticeable sonic difference. I asked about the tubes, since the Classic 2 uses 6922 and the Classic 1 uses 8080, but Mel swo...

Re: CJ New Product line rumors
By the way, has anyone else noticed that the new Classic 2 preamp is going to be using one 6922 tube instead of the (two) current 8080 tubes? While waiting for them to respond to my email about when to send in my preamp to upgradeto the SE version, I meandered over to their site just to check it out...

Re: Is CJ closed for Easter?
Since Ed left, phone help is sparse. I got a relatively quick reply by email a few weeks ago. service@conradjohnson.com I did send an email Tuesday as well, but didn't get a response to that. Perhaps they're overwhelmed and can't keep up with the requests. I didn't know Ed, so I'll have to assume t...

Is CJ closed for Easter?
I've written and called every day this week (and their answering machine says they're closed Fridays), and not so much as a peep out of them. Are they on Spring Break? I see I can update my Classic to the Classic 2 - or can it be updated to the Classic 2 SE - if there is such a thing?!?!? I don't ev...

Re: A bigger trap in the corner
Hi Jim: As you are one of the few people with Tube Traps that I know, I have a question for you. I have, per Peter Moncrieff's original tube trap suggestions, back in '89, set up my traps using his suggestions. See hyperlink below: http://www.tubetrap.com/bass_traps_articles/iar89.htm He has the abs...
