Re: Another New Member

RJ makes a good point of it being often more difficult to find replacement parts for SS gear which tends to be more complicated and have specialized parts. I had a failure of the front Display on my home theater Onkyo receiver a few years ago. As the display board is custom and the unit was about a ...

Re: Another New Member

Certainly hope so. My PS Audio 200 Cx certainly continues to run perfectly. But my Classe DR-5 is not working (one channel inop). Hoping to find a way to investigate costs and practicality of repair. But it will be for a 2nd system even if it gets repaired. For now, Ive got my front end running thr...

Re: New Member- I am in Love with my Synthesis Speakers

Welcome to CJO. Some cool vintage gear there. I haven't seen a manual for the Synthesis speakers ever pop up. They don't have one listed on the official CJ site either. This may have been before digital authoring of manuals. We have had some discussion about these speakers on here, may want to do a ...

Re: Another New Member

Welcome to CJO. Very nice. Nothing like brining an old system back to life. Hopefully a re-tube is all that is needed for Premier 11. It should pair very well with the maggies. I use a pair of 20.1's myself and I am a big fan of the company. The default wiring for the Premier 11 is 4 ohms so unless ...

Re: I took the plunge and upgraded big time!

Completely agree with RJ here on the maggies. They really need a lot of room. Magnepan says they will play well even in limited spaces but my personal experience with the 20.1's is that to get them to play at their full potential you need to keep them way off the walls. I'm talking 5 ft off the wall...

Re: I took the plunge and upgraded big time!

Congrats on the S3. They look awesome. Lots of design work went into making that speaker. The internal aluminum framework is really something. You will definitely have to give us a review when you get the speakers and have a little play time on them.

Re: Nordost- Making the Connection

All I can say is that it looks outstanding. Very high quality. I think we all grapple with the cost vs performance on accessories like cables. Sounds like you can appreciate the improvement in the audio so I would say it's a win. I've had disappointing results in experimenting in the power cord area...

Re: Lampizator Big Seven DAC.

Ok, so basically you would just need my address so they can ship the part to me, then I just ship it to an address in Miami?

I can certainly help with that.

I presume this is because they won't ship directly to Costa Rica?

Re: Lampizator Big Seven DAC.

Very sorry to hear about your friend.

Roberto, how exactly can we help in this situation? Are you saying you would like somebody in the US to order a part with shipping domestically to the US and then mail it to Costa Rica?

Re: Tube of choice for P12's

I don't recall the specific manufacture off the top of my head. If you call/email Jon at TheTubeStore I'm sure he can give you more info. At $20 it was pretty expensive so perhaps worth a try. I just checked my email conversation with him and he just responded with "we'll send you something nic...

Re: Tube of choice for P12's

Really like the PV-14L paired with the MV-55. It's a modest setup (as was the goal) and I have it down stairs in our sunroom so I do more casual listening. It's really a pleasure to have high quality sound in that space. I will often just hang out with my wife while she is doing something and I get ...

I think this is why experience is so important. Specs are not going to be enough when making decisions such as these.

Re: ACT2.2 distortion/pops?

I also don't see how a cable direction would cause these issues, unless the cable was not seated properly to begin with and simply removing and reconnecting made a better contact. Or a cold solder in the connector and reseating the cable simply pushed it to a better contact.

Re: Premier 11 ( 4 ohm ?)

No problem. It's really just matching the color of the wires so not even a typical schematic so you should be all set.

If the unit wasn't altered, it should be wired for 4 ohm by default.

Re: Premier 11 ( 4 ohm ?)

First, welcome to CJO. If you go to the troubleshooting section of our forum, the sticky post at the top will allow you download our schematic files. There is a wiring diagram for the resistance settings for both the premier 11 and 12 (as it is the same for both). You can then compare and see how it...

Re: Oh! For the love of tubes!

Attn: Admin These tubes are used in the Input gain stage of your ART monoblocks, as well as my amplifiers. So it's reassuring to know that Derrek is on the ball. These NOS M8080 Mullards are designed on the Box anodes, very robust, long lasting and highly musical. Fantastic sonics in the midrange. ...

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2

I think that's a loaded question. The GAT was the highest level preamp that CJ offered for that generation. The ET7s2 obviously wasn't but is still in the current line and #2. I think you could make arguments for both and I can't comment on their sound as I never had the opportunity to do a direct A...

Re: ACT2.2 distortion/pops?

Sounds like it's not a tube issue. I don't have a schematic for the ACT2 so going pretty blind here. I would go with the low hanging fruit. Very thorough visual inspection of the left channel components looking for any burn marks, bulging caps, poor solder connections, etc... Next I would get a non-...

Re: Bi-wire speaker cables conversion

You can always use a biwire cable as single ended simply by not plugging the second set of contacts. No harm in doing that although purists may object.
