Re: GAT1 versus GAT2
I think that's a loaded question. The GAT was the highest level preamp that CJ offered for that generation. The ET7s2 obviously wasn't but is still in the current line and #2. I think you could make arguments for both and I can't comment on their sound as I never had the opportunity to do a direct A...

Re: ACT2.2 distortion/pops?
Sounds like it's not a tube issue. I don't have a schematic for the ACT2 so going pretty blind here. I would go with the low hanging fruit. Very thorough visual inspection of the left channel components looking for any burn marks, bulging caps, poor solder connections, etc... Next I would get a non-...

Re: Bi-wire speaker cables conversion
You can always use a biwire cable as single ended simply by not plugging the second set of contacts. No harm in doing that although purists may object.

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2
If you can get a GAT in there, I think you would be one happy camper. I'm sure it would complement the FR20. I know Paul McGowan at PS Audio is very proud of that speaker.

Re: New bee to CJ
Attn: Admin Do we have a tab / section where Gen can download a better version of the owner's manual for the Prem8A's, apparently it wasn't clear. Cheers mate, and do enjoy those finest tunes! RJ All the schematics I have are in that single download file. I'm not home right now so I can't confirm w...

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2
That's some great gear. Where a GAT would fall into the mix is hard to say, but all we can say is that that performance compared to the PV10AL is going to be on an entirely different level. BTW- how do you like the FR20? Those made some big buzz when they came out but I haven't had the opportunity t...

Re: GAT1 versus GAT2
For example, our good mate Admin, upgraded his power amp from the Evo2000 to the ART series 1 monoblocks. These were CJ's top of the line at the time. However, during his upgrade experience, he was still using the much older PV12 preamp. It wasn't until he finally got hold of an ET7S2, that he disc...

Re: Conrad Johnson Prem 12 with Focal Sopra 2
It will be fine. CJ amps are great at dealing with dips in resistance. Awesome speaker by the way. I was under the impression that the Focal Supra 2 is rated at 8 ohms?

Re: Changing MV55 to 16 ohms output
First, welcome to CJO. Great to have you with us. I too am a MV-55 owner. Really great amp. As for the rewiring question. I don't have a specific reference for the wiring diagram but in our schematic database we do have some speaker resistance diagrams for the Premier 11-12 series as well as the MV-...

I wasn't aware that the Premier 12 is still CJ upgradable. I don't remember it being listed on their upgrade page. But if it is, that is great to hear.

Re: Cap Upgrade: DIY
I'm sure there are some caps that are "more important than others." I wish I knew which ones were those. :) I think in some audio equipment there can be components that simply don't influence the sound. Things like digital volume control, input/output switching, etc... but when the compone...

Re: Cap Upgrade: DIY
I hear you. I think one issue is that every cap is going to be on the audio pathway on an amp like the Premier 12. Which means every cap could have a significant influence on the sound. How does one really know which ones are degrading after +20 years?

Re: Cap Upgrade: DIY
CJ doesn't offer any formal upgrades to the Premier 12 so it's hard to say. I couldn't really say which are "more important" caps relative to others. As the unit is getting up there in age, I would maybe do a visual inspection and if you see if any of the caps are not looking their best, m...

Re: Working on my Premier 8XS Amps.
Nice repair work. Some components definitely do age out. Not only by use but storage conditions as well. You mention that the unit may not have had a lot of hours of use, but if not stored in proper temperature/humidity conditions, I've seen that do a fair amount of damage to electronics over decade...

I haven't heard back from my hosting provider about the support ticket but I have not seen any further "Internal Server Errors" pop up in the last 24 hours. I'm hoping that the issue is resolved..... fingers crossed. EDIT 3/16/24: I received an official email from the hosting site saying i...

I bought GENALEX - GOLD LION ECC82 / B749 for my PV-12L in the past and really liked them. They were bought from The Tube Store with direct consultation with Jon over there. Here is the direct link: https://www.thetubestore.com/genalex-gold-lion-ecc82-b749 As for "troublefree", there is al...

Re: Recent Website Reliability Problems
Received another update from the hosting company. The issue is being elevated to an even higher support staff member as the "higher tech support" member could not figure out what is causing the error. I appreciate everybody's understanding, patience, and support. We'll get CJO back to tip ...

Re: M8080 Replacement LP260MSE Monoblocks
Yup, the M8080 is in the ART monoblock input stage. I don't know if it's that specific tube or the combination of everything but I sure like it! I'm not exactly sure where there are made, I presume a lot of the production is in Russia so that doesn't bode well for supply.
