Re: First Tube Rolling Experience...Unexpected Results!

So the Premier 12s can use KT120 as replacement for the 6550. Are there any other types of power tubes options that can be safely used ,or is it just 6550 and KT120? I am asking because I am considering buying a pair of the 12s.

Thanks

Re: Normal Operating Temperature for MF2500A

camiablue and Admin,

Thanks for your input. I was hoping maybe some MF2500A past , or present owners might have replied with their personal experience.

Normal Operating Temperature for MF2500A

Hello Everyone, I was wondering if a Conrad Johnson MF2500A would be a good candidate to use as a summertime amp? It gets a little too warm in my music room using my Classic120 on hot days. I really could use an amp that runs cool to slightly warmish under normal operation. I used my MV55 last summe...

Re: CJ Pre Amp to go with Premier 12 Monoblocks.

Joe, $4,500 would have been an expensive upgrade for the Teflon Caps. I could be wrong , but I thought I remembered Jeff quoting a price of under $2,000 for the Premier 14 Teflon Cap upgrade. I will reconfirm this price when I talk to him this week. I am not looking to do the upgrade , but it could ...

Re: Design Trend in Some Newer CJ Preamps

It does seem odd that Conrad Johnson is only using one tube for some of their preamps. I understand the simplicity with just using one tube , but if it is hard on the single tube, it might be time to rethink the one tube approach. Especially considering if one prefers NOS tubes and the cost of these...

Re: CJ Pre Amp to go with Premier 12 Monoblocks.

The Premier 12 mono blocks are great amps and built very well. They were introduced in 1993 , so any Premier level preamp that was out at that time would have been matched with the Premier 12s. You could really use any CJ preamp. Within the Premier preamp line up available at that time would have be...

Re: Classic 120 Plate Fuse Holders Location

Roberto, I am glad I could help you. I have had plenty of plate fuses blow over the years with different CJ amps that I have owned. Power tubes do go up sometimes and it will blow the plate fuse. Even electrical surges can blow a fuse. I wish you the best with possibly being able to relocate your pl...

Re: Classic 120 Plate Fuse Holders Location

The type of fuse did change to a 600VAC KTK-1 with the new Plate Fuse. Most of Conrad Johnson's amps over the years have had the plate fuses located either on the outside rear panel , or on the top of the amp directly behind the power tubes. I was actually a little disappointed when I found out my C...

Re: Classic 120 Plate Fuse Holders Location

Hello Roberto,
I posted a picture above of both the left and right channel plate fuse , that I had moved to the outside rear panel by Jeff at Conrad Johnson. This is something that CJ will do for any Classic 120 owners.

Re: Classic 120 Plate Fuse Holders Location

I actually had the plate fuses moved and placed on the outside real panel of my Classic 120 amp. Jeff at CJ will do this conversion if anyone is interested. It is so much easier to just reach around the back of the amp to replace the fuse. Much easier than having to remove the bottom cover of the am...

Thank You Big Dog RJ.

It really does not make a lot of sense , but it is what it is! I hope life is treating you well also and you are enjoying your CJ gear.
I really do enjoy the Classic 120, thanks.

Re: Classic 120 Question

I am not sure if the Classic 120 , which is the El34 tube version can be converted for KT tubes , or not. That would be a question for Jeff. Jeff can convert The Classic 120 SE to an EL34 Tube version. The Classic 120 is a very good amp and I would recommend it highly for someone looking for a El34 ...

I enjoy the Premier 16 very much. It is definitely on another level of performance compared the Premier 14, which is a very decent preamp on its own.

Re: Preamp Gain on Premier 16

I am relating the gain in terms of perceived volume settings between the two preamps. It depends on what the musical source is being played also. The Premier 16 is a lot louder at low volume settings compared to the 14. I feel the Premier 16 was definitely a transitional preamp for Conrad Johnson. T...

Re: Preamp Gain on Premier 16

Another Johnson, Thanks for your reply. I usually buy my NOS tubes from Brent Jessie. He is a very good and reliable source for NOS tubes. I have used upscale audio also. I buy my 6GK5 tubes strait from Conrad Johnson. They offer the Sylvania 6GK5 tubes and they sound really good in my Premier 14 an...

Re: "Timer" for Power Tube Life

I usually just go by how often I have my system powered up on a daily, or weekly basis and replace accordingly. On average, one usually needs to replace power tubes about every 3 years with average hours per week. At least that is what CJ has always recommended. If one listens above average hours , ...
