Re: ET3 burn in period?

They work with the immediate memory, which is very easy to get confused. Our immediate memory only last in a trained ears, only 15 to 20 seconds. Just the time to do a change, its enough for lose the immediate memory. A reason why, when I am going to any change and observation, having paper and pen...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Yes that’s exactly what they do... good one minute noteably not good at all the next, to a point where you begin to doubt that you heard it sound any good at all... personally I didn’t experience any major difference between my caps in the ET3 bedding in over the Teflon’s in the ET5 they both take ...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Well that really depends on who your prepared to listen too personally (l now own the ET5) and think yes while it’s better than my old ET3 it is in no way 6.5k better I wouldn’t for instance go from the ET3 Standard to the Se version but if you can get a ET5 at a good price then that would be the w...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Jonathan, thanks. I must confess, I already thought of getting rid of it: it takes so much time to start performing well...

Also, just how much is the SE version better than the regular version?

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Fixed it locally. Had a local speaker guy disassemble the faulty driver (which was indeed de-centered) and assemble it back again. Performs flawlessly now. Still waiting for that preamp to burn-in completely. So far it is not up to speed in the upper register: the treble and upper midbass. Sounds st...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Andrey, I do believe that the cost of the driven won´t matter. This might the reason why the seller did sell them. On the other hand, you got a very good price. The apparent lack of high frequency is, perhaps, because you are used to listen other speakers that are bright. Just give yourself some ti...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Hi Andrey, I would suggest when you get your driver back that (as a good will gesture) that seller considers sharing some of the cost depending how much this turns out to be. However as Roberto says at least you can now fix the problem and finally get on to listening to some music...!! Jonathan. Jo...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Bad news and good news. Bad because you have to spend some money for a new driver. Good, because you found the problem. Its going to take for you some time for the new driver. Please keep us posted regarding your findings. Happy listening! Roberto, You are spot-on. Sure will. Thanks for your empath...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Excellent it should also determin the cause of the problem. Jonty. Well, it's the driver. Took it out completely, checked it, it's off center. The seller suggested to take the speakers back, but I want to keep them. So next week the driver is going to California. CJ is burning in. Will probably loo...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Jazzz, I have this problem more usual that you could think. I do not why, but the truck moving on the road could cause this, and the distortion is evident. It sounds horrible. Just be sure that no cable is touching the speaker´s cone. Also, when the alignment of the magnet is not well centered, par...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

 Hola. I am going to chime here a little bit more. Usually that problem is due to one of the Lead coil cable that it is touching the speaker cone. Address the cable in a such manner that the lead cable does not touches it. Check this out, it might be your problem. Another possibility is that d...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Hi, Well I hope you can get it sorted, just out of interest what seems to be wrong with the driver... Jonty. The driver produces distorted sound. I believe it is not the driver itself but some of the parts in the crossover, but Richard Vandersteen thinks it must be the driver. Says there's nothing ...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Hi Jazzz, Well that’s frustrating how did you pay...!! Id be very surprised if the driver would suddenly be defective unless it had taken a huge knock in transit and if so there shoud be evidence of this, with the box very obviously damaged. Did they come in vandersteen boxes...? Also for the drive...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Let us know how you get on. Jonty. I certainly will. However, the CJ is not my biggest concern right now: I bought a secondhand pair of Vandersteen Quatro speakers and one of the midwoofers seems to be defective. I bought them with delivery from another city and discovered this in a week after the ...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Hi Jazz, You’ll find that as your ET3 Settles down your tubes will sound very different at the end of this process. Your tube pecking order will probably be different from what you thought initially So once your ET3 is fully burnt in test all your tubes again as you’ll be surprised as to what you t...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Hi Jazz, I’d consider not using your new Tesla tube to burn your ET3 in as it will take its toll on it if your full tilt 24/7. Listen to it by all means but it won’t be meaningful until the ET3 is fully performing and you’ll be wasting a good tube. I’d stick your EH back and let that take the hit.....

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Installed the Tesla. Much better sound, no hiss. Can't say much about sound improvement in general - have to fix a problem with the speakers first. But burn-in is going full throttle with Tara Labs Cascade disk.
Thanks for your advice and support.

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Yeah, most probably a bad tube.
I bought it secondhand, but unused, so no free replacements.
I have a Tesla e88cc coming my way.
I am also looking for - as somebody mentioned - a PCC88 tube, that will take the ET3 higher voltage easier.
Thanks y'all )

Re: ET3 burn in period?

Thank you guys. It is quite audible. It was not there when I switched the amp on the first time. I feel it should not be there. Yes, it does bother me. Also, I want to do some tube rolling in the hope that this makes my pre sound better. However, I hear you loud and clear, thanks. Have a Tesla Gold ...

Re: ET3 burn in period?

New input: the pre developed hiss in both channels, a lot more audible in the left channel. Stays constant 1 thru 40 volume, gone at 0 or mute. Tube gone bad?
